Have to admit, I'm rather looking forward to seeing Flamini in our squad

He was one of my favourite players in his last spell at the club, and I always appreciated his energy, determination and focus. I also respected the way he tried to gee others up around him and lead by example on the pitch.

I also completely understood his reasons for wanting to play for AC Milan (for starters, his father is Italian), and also have no problem with a player honouring his contract before deciding to walk away.

So, for me, if we sign him, he comes with no need to apologise or make amends. He did nothing wrong, and always fought hard for the team when he played.

Only thing for me is whether he's a good enough squad player or not. If he is, great. If not, I'll criticise Wenger for signing him. For now, the jury is out.

i agree with most of this. he runs around a hell of a lot, the antithesis to lego head getting overtaken by the referee. likewise he gees people up and in that sense is a bit of a leader, something we clearly lack, and he will tell a guy if they are not pulling there weight, likewise hes no softy so he will stand up for his teammates i think. id take him on a free, rather him than barry.

No chance Benzema is coming to us. Madrid play with 1 front man with Ronaldo in a free role. If they get rid of Benzema then they have no first choice strikers.

I suppose you could argue Ronaldo could go up top with Bale roaming if he goes. I don't see it though.

A couple of weeks ago Ancelotti told the Spanish press that he wanted Ronaldo to play a free role more in the centre and nearer the box, so they may be willing to let Benny and Di go (the latter much more likely than the former)

Always thought Flamini was a likely target. Haven't had internet access all day and phone isn't great for it - how credible are rumours/how imminent is it?

If we sign him we'll give the greedy little fuckwit far too much money, especially considering that clearly nobody else wants him. Could he do a job? Possibly - obviously some fitness concerns and not in anything like the same form as 2008 but we could still really do with somebody to do the role that he used to. But theres no way we should be resorting to taking gambles on players like him and frankly I'd rather see the prick begging some other club for a contract.

We did shaft him too to be fair (CL run he was instrumental, then dropped in the final for half-fit Cuntley Cole), and were about to flog him off to Birmingham before his breakthrough season.

I know we've plenty of problem positions (gk, dm, st, dc) but imo we do need wide players with pace (we've become a very slow side) but who can actually dribble. I like di Maria, Capel is a decent player, Tom Ince might be worth a shot. Theo did Ok last year but nobody else looked good.

Couple of things;

I don't see the problem with re-signing Flamini. He should fit in straight away, will cover a couple of different positions and is only 29. There's no reason why he should be past his best. If it's approached as a short-term solution to a problem, then I don't see how it can fail. Anything else will be a welcome bonus. You never know, he could end up being alright.

Can't understand anyone who wants to boo him. Sure, he's a prick - but find me a modern footballer who isn't. At the end of the day, you're going to be booing someone who plays for Arsenal. What do you think is going to be achieved by that? Do you think that Arsenal Football Club is somehow going to be better off because you said the word 'boo' to someone who could not give a fuck who you are?

Again, I don't see the problem with it. I just hope that isn't the limit of our ambition. I'm not holding my breath though.
