THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

none.

neither do we spend time watching tapes of the opposition so we can adjust our game - wanger believes we should just play our game....
Thierry Henry biography 'Lonely At The Top', written by French journalist Philippe Auclair. From page 157 I extract the following quote:

"By contrast [to his love for statistical data], he [Wenger] will devote surprisingly little time to the analysis of future opponents. I remember how, a couple of days before the 2006 Champions League final, Wenger casually let drop in conversation that he and his staff would have a good look at Barcelona's shape on the eve of the game. I was astonished. Hadn't they done that already?. A Mourinho would have had his scouts filing report after report on his team's adversaries for weeks, if not months. Perceived weaknesses would have been identified, specific training drills would have been designed to exploit them. For Wenger, however, attention to such details would have been an admission of inferiority, a denial of his footballing credo."
do you see ?

this is why he is not fit to manage a pub team.
As you know, that quote above was referring to our Champions League final appearance in 2006, so if you stand by your thinking that back then he wasn't fit to run a pub team, then how do you explain his huge success between 1998-2006?? luck? :?
That seems to be written with hindsight in mind. As much as i dislike Wenger now, i dont think any criticism can be made for losing that much, we were decent on the night, and it came down to Henry not taking the chances he had.

Taking off Pires, instead of an inexperienced, unproven Hleb, was one of AW's worst ever decisions IMO.

Bergkamp.

he was unplayable.

him like Vieira, Parlour, Henry, Overmars, Pires could be told "go play" with no preparation. add that to the greatest back five ever, who he inherited and were so well drilled by George he couldn't coach it out of them.

and Jens getting sent off and Dennis not being fit.

the side were tiring when Larsson came on with 15 minutes to go, its clear now we had no plan for him. had someone been told to man mark him out of the game - as George would have done - remember the job morrow did on Brolin in 94 ? - we would have one 1-0 imho.

those four factors cost us.

That's not very good. So he doesn't coach nor does he do business. He is good at the double arm goal pump though.

"I am not a good time girl. I don't go to the discotheque looking for footballers.

"I don't care about being famous. I don't want to be recognised in the street.

"I am not doing this for money. We were in love. He promised me things. He said he wanted me to stay with him for the rest of his life.

"Now I would like him to understand it's not a game to play with people's emotions. I truly loved him."

 The man's modus operandi and the end result are always the same. Whether with lovers or fans.

He's also very skilled at the double sideways, frustrated-stranded-penguin arm flap when wearing The Coat.

Excellent parody of Wenger. The quotes sound freakishly real.

Just watched his press conference in full.....confused? You bet

So on one hand its not like the window of 2011 - that was down to unexpected long term injuries.

Then he moves on and says its not about the number of players we sign, its about the quality

Then at the very end when he's asked if he'd be happy with the current squad and no signings he says that he's very happy with the quality but not the numbers

So is he happy with the quality....or the number....or neither....or both

Arsene knows

me too. the guy really is senile. didya catch this ?:
"Look at our midfield Wednesday night [against Fenerbahce]. [Jack]Wilshere, [Aaron] Ramsey, [Theo] Walcott, [Tomas] Rosicky, [Santi] Cazorla. Out of the five, three made their debut and was educated here. Two we have bought. That is the right mixture."
ummmm no Arsene. Walcott and Ramsay made League debuts at Southampton and Cardiff Respectively. So you educated one (who was going to make it anyway...) and bought FOUR.

someone is either lying to us or doing a bit of revisionist history to justify their track record. or both.

No I can't have that - he may be a few sandwiches short of the packed lunch these days old "Overalls" and forgets he says the same thing alot but he can still deliver some oustanding comedy from time to time and not only of the Eboue kind.
I mean I am still laughing at the Cabaye joke which you have to admit was a peach and properly executed with that 10 mil bid. This supposedly turned the player's head giddy to such an extent that he couldn't play a football match and made the barcodes lose four nil all on his own. Hahahahahaha!
That is fcuking funny.
What no one told the poor sod at any time was all that Wenger remotely wanted him for anyway was to sacrifice the fcuking goats because that is an area where we really haven't strengthened and this geezer really has a patent talent for desctruction.
