SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

The way things are at the moment he is going to have to buy just to have adequate squad numbers - quality will be secondary.

On Bale - why would Madrid lose 3 or more world class players to take him in? Yes he stood out last year but that was because he was in an average side and managed to make them look just north of average. He'll do a Torres in a proper side and just go missing. Anyway if it means we get some good players then good on em.

Sanogo.......meh

I don't think Bale will do a Torres, the latter is just physiologically and physically not the same player as before but I don't think Bale will do a Ronaldo either. Why?

1) Teams defend deeper against the likes of Real Madrid than they do against Sp*rs.
2) Bale will not have a free role in Real Madrid.
3) Bale will be second to Ronaldo.

He'll most likely do a Cesc. He'll still be a very good player but he won't be as important to his new team as he was to his old team. At least Barca got Cesc on the cheap, Real Madrid are getting ripped off. No way is Bale worth £90m.

what would he know - he's been in the US all week, breaking down the play for NBC's new footy show.

ps. by big, does he mean taller than him ? Dicko was about 5.4 wasn't he ???
He is mates with Bouldy though.

Have met him, 5 foot 8 I would say.

Here's my logic:

Torres was super boy at his little club in Spain, he then went to Liverpool - albeit a big club - but one where he was also the clear star with Gerard and so his confidence was intact. He then went to Chelsea where stars were everywhere and with his masvie price tag he has walked into a dressing room with Lampard, Terry and Drogba (from whom he was trying to take a starting role) and he would have been told to shut up and sit in the corner - confidence gone. This is why he would be great at Arsenal - chance to shine again. Anyway I liken this scenario to Bale - only start in a medium club - not only does he go to perhaps the biggest club with the biggest egos, he goes with the biggest price tag and dislodges 3 of the existing team's mates - can't imagine the reception will be great there either.

Is he worht 100m? If you were offered Bale OR Ozil+Benzema+Di Maria who would you take - i say the latter and lets hope we get some of it.

Well look at it this way ,we buy him for cash ,then put him in the pet shop window and wait till real madrid sell us nearly their their entire squad for a pittance to get the chimp.
If they dont play ball then we have the chimp and the Irate swamp dwellers start offing themselves .

Its no more ridiculous than the rest of the BS thats flying around right now !
