SUMMER TRANSFERS - Your thoughts on who did and did not sign

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

As stated in the off season I maintain Giroud will be a major success in his second season and i see nothing so far to question that. Similarly i maintain Torres would be a superb buy for us. day or so to go - let's see.

Unbelieveable.

I maybe after a whole lot of beer after today's North London Derby but it would appear to me that some people on this forum and to be quite honest all over the world are never impressed.

Some of our "supporters" have spent the last 3 months bitching about our lack of spending and I am going to be the 1st the say with good reason, however with a day to go we are finally showing an inch of ambition and people are saying "40 million is too much". That is laughable. You spend 3 months bitching that we are not bidding enough for players and when we finally make a competitive bid for a world class player it is said to be too much.

Some people are never pleased and are not real fans. The likes of Ozil should have us all out of our seats. End of story. My only complaint would be that after Flamini coming back we should tighten the centre of defence and give Giroud some company up top but at this late stage, beggers cannot be choosers.

agreed 100%. he is world class regardless of what position he plays. when you can get a world class player you do it. now i agree we need more than just him but that would be a monumental signing.

Im very clear ,if he buys quality at top dollar im all for it ,if he buys yet more dross for the sake of it then I might start self harming .

Apparantly Bendtner is nowhere near fit hence he's having another Gap year at our expense !

Agreed agreed!! Flamini wouldnt have been my first choice for DM but at least weve got someone with bite. Ozil is outstanding. Now El Shawarry (spelling apologies) would make my day but i would cop Torres for sure (despite the naysayers) or Defoe (yup i know) - do you see a theme. PS Some of you guys should lay off Giroud.
I can live with Chesney but some defensive reinforcements are needed. Finally, good to see Ramsey coming good and if only Rosicky and Wilshere were made of stronger glass we could even compete in the second half of the season.

Spot on, the club would make a large chunk of that back from shirt sales, merchandising and renewed interest in tickets anyway

Back to the old financial motivation versus on pitch success argument eh ?

I cannot understand why some people cannot read people's posts properly - there is nobody, and I mean nobody, here that doubts that ozil is anything less than top quality, and yes he will have fans jumping out of their seats but will he provide that defensive stability that we badly need ? Will he provide that cover at CB that we badly need (we have 3 centre backs including sagna ? Will he provide that competition for chesney in the goals and to be a quality back up if/when the young pole has another one of his brain farts or gets injured ? Will ozil prove to be a top quality partner/alternative to giroud ?
Again I will say that ozil is top quality and in todays market is def worth 40m and if he was all we needed to challenge then I would have no probs spending that type of money but the facts are that we have other (more pressing even ?) needs and 40m takes a major chunk out of the kitty
