Back to the old financial motivation versus on pitch success argument eh ?
I cannot understand why some people cannot read people's posts properly - there is nobody, and I mean nobody, here that doubts that ozil is anything less than top quality, and yes he will have fans jumping out of their seats but will he provide that defensive stability that we badly need ? Will he provide that cover at CB that we badly need (we have
3 centre backs including sagna ? Will he provide that competition for chesney in the goals and to be a quality back up if/when the young pole has another one of his brain farts or gets injured ? Will ozil prove to be a top quality partner/alternative to giroud ?
Again I will say that ozil is top quality and in todays market is def worth 40m and if he was all we needed to challenge then I would have no probs spending that type of money but the facts are that we have other (more pressing even ?) needs and 40m takes a major chunk out of the kitty[/quote]
Probably best post i've seen here all summer. I posted a few days back that after waiting all these years for AFC to finally spend i would feel pretty disappointed if we broke our record on the likes of Torres or my current worry di Maria. I think I'd have a similar feeling about Ozil because as the above poster states, aside from his undoubted quality, he's hardly the player we really need right now and far from being someone who really wants to join us he appears to be someone being unwillingly shunted out of Madrid. As for the other 4 or 5 players we desperately need to bring in to flesh out the squad, surely AW must see that our first 11 is good but we're in exactly the same situation that prompted the 8-2 if we don't add additional numbers. Just an odd comment but rather than spend big on Cabaye I'd rather take a punt on Shaun Maloney as a cut-price midfield squad player. I've always rated him and think he'd fit seamlessly into our team/style. If not bomb him out in 6months at a slight loss.
