Cost of kids local football....outrageous
Cost of kids local football....outrageous
My little girl plays for Braintree Town U'8s. Great set up,brilliant coaches who give up their time for free etc etc. Staggered to hear the local council are charging the club £7.5k pa to hire a local pitch for the kids to play their games....no changing rooms, parents set up the goals and do everything else. The grass is cut ,pitches (2) marked with lines and that's it. £7.5k.....what a joke. Shame on them, what an incentive to support grass roots football. Club are appealing, deserve to win.
Re: Cost of kids local football....outrageous
£7.5k a year? that's insane. How many teams do you have?
Re: Cost of kids local football....outrageous
They have 10 teams for the youth but only have 2 teams playing on this pitch...it's an absolute disgrace.

That's sad. Please keep us up do date on it, Lee. I'm interested to see how this plays out (including their side of the story) because local sports club are the lifeblood of a community and should be cherished, not forced out of existence!Lee1 wrote:They have 10 teams for the youth but only have 2 teams playing on this pitch...it's an absolute disgrace.

It's strange, the government cry out for kids to reduce time spent on video-games, the telly etc. and get active to reduce obesity, but they are hardly helping by charging stupid prices for people to fork out money so that they can do it.

Got to be worth contacting the FA, the Minister for Sport and a few national newspapers...make a big song and dance about it....shame the council into lowering the costs.
Re: Cost of kids local football....outrageous
This is happening all over the country it some local papers have taken it up .

My son plays for an under 11 team in Leeds of which there is a total of 9 teams but the cost is nowhere near that , must be the North South divide
Re: Cost of kids local football....outrageous
You should get hold of the local paper. They love stories like this. Also get hold of District Councillors, particularly opposition ones. General Election in less than 2 years. Tories won't want to look like big bad ogres locally.

I'm from Hampshire, the local council pitches around here are about £55 a game, how much PER game is it up there Lee?
The £55 would include the nets being set up and good changing facilities, showers etc.
Problem is all the money that goes into football doesn't filter down to grass roots level and this won't happen unless wholesale changes are made at the FA but the old school tie are like a posh mafia minus the horses heads

Reckon a banner and flip flops might do the trick, now if only we knew where you could get a banner.

Can't the team sublet the field on non match days to the local dogging fraternity?
