As a guy that has begged AFC to sign a big DM in the past 4 seasons, I will be interested to see how wanyama and paulinho get on cos both like good players to me. Neither player could be classed as cheap so the bargain tag might not apply although a good powerful DM would be priceless to us imo.
Steklenburg will be a good buy for Fulham I think - replacing schwarzer was never going to be easy but getting an experienced international, especially for fcuk all money, will be a good bit of business for fulham imo
Flops will be harder to guess -
Capoue will be one imo - ideally your centre midfield has one ball player and one tough ball winning player so playing this guy alongside paulinho wont be a success imo and capoue is the weaker of the two so will be hung out to dry
With the exception of sakho I reckon all the victims signings will be classed as failures - mignolet in particular is over-rated imo and will be exposed this seasonI reckon they got the bargain of the season.
Granted it is early days but his authority and command of his area looks very very weak at the mo - I am not saying that he is shit but for me he is not worth the money they paid for him and that will make it harder for him to justify that fee

Re: Transfer flop of the season + bargain predictions
In fairness there are not many world class keepers around. And many of the modern crop don't seem to command their area like keepers of old. But Chesney is absolutely hopeless at commanding his area. One of the worst. To me he is that goalkeeping cliche - a shotstopper. I agree the Mousers overpaid for Mignolet but I would still have him ahead of Chesney anyday.augie wrote:DB10GOONER wrote:Agreed. Re: Transfer flop of the season + bargain predictions
Imo Mignolet is a decent keeper (and one I'd have ahead of Szczesny) but nothing more than that atm. We're not spoiled for quality keepers in the league atm (unlike 5 years ago with Reina, Cech, Van der Sar and solid keepers like Friedel and Given showing tremendous consistency). Imo Lloris is probably the pick of the bunch atm, there are a few very talented keepers that have a long way to go (like Hart and de Gea) and Mignolet on a fairly generous assessment probably slots into the bracket alongside the likes of Tim Krul and Cech of being a good and fairly consistent keeper.

Yep, Lloris is top quality and wanted to come to us. Shame we didn't go for it.northbank123 wrote:Imo Mignolet is a decent keeper (and one I'd have ahead of Szczesny) but nothing more than that atm. Couldn't be arsed to check, but I'm sure I read that he kept 13 clean sheets for Sunderland last season, in a team that nearly went down that's no mean feat, and at 9 million he was hardly an expensive purchase.DB10GOONER wrote:In fairness there are not many world class keepers around. Ferdandinho (cost over £30m, from Shakhtar and meant to be the dogs bollocks), but looks like a shit version of De Jong
Re: Transfer flop of the season + bargain predictions
Nice to see Fellaini looking exactly like the lumbering carthorse he is as Leverkusen passed the ball around him and he gave away free kicks in the style of Alex Mong.
£27m - what a fucking joke. Bullet dodged. They needed Ozil, and got Fellaini. He'll be a bigger flop at United than Veron

They really wanted Baines but Toffees told them to bollocks which meant they needed to sign someone, anyone, to appease their fans.SteveO 35 wrote:Nice to see Fellaini looking exactly like the lumbering carthorse he is as Leverkusen passed the ball around him and he gave away free kicks in the style of Alex Mong.

Agree. And to top it all off he made a right hash of signing him - instead of doing it at the start of July for the £23m giving him a full pre-season and taking some of the weight and doubt off him, Moyes made a huge deal of publicly courting the likes of Fabregas who wasn't going to go there and hence the signing inevitably looks desperate.officepest wrote:They really wanted Baines but Toffees told them to bollocks which meant they needed to sign someone, anyone, to appease their fans.SteveO 35 wrote:Nice to see Fellaini looking exactly like the lumbering carthorse he is as Leverkusen passed the ball around him and he gave away free kicks in the style of Alex Mong.

Another wonderful display from the Belgian hod carrier at the Etihad.
They even compared his ability to give free kicks away to Peter Crouch's !! Oh dear oh dear......and to think some round here suggested we should pay £25m for him

Flamini MOTD. Looks like Flamini was an astute bet.

Di Canio sacked by Sunderland after just 13 games in charge following dismal start to Premier League campaign.
Paolo Di Canio's tumultuous reign as Sunderland manager came to an end after his players turned on him during a furious training ground bust-up.
The fiery Italian called his stars in for a crisis meeting at the club’s Cleadon training ground on Sunday following their disappointing 3-0 defeat at West Bromwich Albion on Saturday.
But the summit quickly turned sour after Di Canio pointed the finger at a number of his players, blaming them for their poor start to the season.
