THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We mods don't asterisk the C-Bomb. The owner has it set so that the word is automatically asterisked out. Some of us mods fought long and hard (steady... steady, GayJay... steady... ) to keep the word in all of its glory but the owner is the owner and his decision is final.

I find "crunt" is an old but gold solution that, whilst not as effective as the full C-Bomb, does get the point accross, although in a more lighthearted way.

Got a phone call from AFC Club Level sales this morning and it went something like this -

Them: Good morning mr flynn, we have been looking back at our records and we see that you were a club member a few seasons ago and we now have a LIMITED ( ) number of seats available in club level due to the fact that many have now stepped up to the hospitality boxes and we were wondering if you would be interested in joining again ?

Me : No I wouldnt be interested I'm afraid

Them : Ok - do you mind me asking if that is because of the stadium itself or because of the team ?

Me : It's because of the manager

Them : Oh (this was followed by a few seconds of silence) - why is that ?

Me : Lack of proper team investment, lack of ambition and generally being all about the money

Them: Did the last transfer window not change your mind then ?

Me: One swallow doesnt make a summer I'm afraid. Years of ineptitude and lack of ambition and investment cannot be forgotten on the back of 1 transfer window.

Them : Ok then, thanks for taking my call.

My wife is in the room listening to the conversation unfolding so she says to me, "I'll bet she is sorry she rang you"

I'd say she's gotten off pretty lightly compared to what your response would be if somebody on here expressed genuine surprise at you not having changed your mind on Wenger and the club's direction based on this summer

Funnily enough, I have a friend who works in the advertising business, and often handle some of the promotional events for The Arsenal...and I hear the Arsenal are planning a series of BBQ's next summer outside the emirates yu buy a burger & chips and scarf etc..

But to avoid sounding trashy they're not going to call them BBQ's, no instead they're going to call them 'Steve O's' - a sizzling time with all the trimmings.

Kroenke in today's Mirror:

"I enjoy talking with him, he is a very interesting guy. He has an absolute view on how he runs that team and the club. He has earned that right.

"Don’t look for me to interfere with that. I have learnt over the years that sometimes owners try do that and it is not so good.

"Guys who try to say that we should push Arsene harder to spend and so on, that’s fair enough, there’s always lots of opinions, but Arsene is an independent thinker, planner, works very hard at it, has a wonderful record and history."

Might try this at work when my ineptitude is causing the company to perform badly. "Leave me alone, i'm an independent thinker"
