Yep, that was just about the only real positive from tonight I think - that game will have done the full-backs a world of good, Vermaelen needed the minutes and Mertesacker looked assured.1989 wrote:Yep quality playerSteveO 35 wrote:Well deserved Monreal - was the best player by a mile from what I saw from an hour onwards
Kudos to Jenko and the rest of the backline as well, all class tonight.

to be fair, liverpool in the carling cup was a tenner. i remember paying cat B prices when we drew the scum a few years ago but i think that was more to do with tottenham being tight than us!Dan_85 wrote:Surely even AFC wouldn't have the nerve to charge full price. They better not turn their backs on £10 tickets
Re: WBA in the whatever its called cup
Glad that's over. Horrible game to watch.
I've still never seen Gnarby or Ryo have a good game - not writing them off, just an observation.
Always nice to win - especially on penaties
surprised Vermaelen wasn't one of our 5 penalty takers though
he's our captain and likes to take free kicks.... thought that was odd considering the inexperience in the side. Oh well, we won

So why didn't Per and TV take pens? I'm always of the opinion that your more experienced players should take the first kicks? Did they bottle it or was it some wacky AW scheme to build the kids confidence?

Re: WBA in the whatever its called cup
So that'll be
Chelsea at home in the league cup
Liverpool at home in the league
Dortmund away in the European Cup
Man United away in the league
in a bit more than a week.
See what this squad is made of

Dunno, I was surprised TV5 didn't take one.Dan_85 wrote:So why didn't Per and TV take pens? I'm always of the opinion that your more experienced players should take the first kicks? Did they bottle it or was it some wacky AW scheme to build the kids confidence?

Missed the vital pen at Bradford last season. Bottled it this time?Midz wrote:Dunno, I was surprised TV5 didn't take one.Dan_85 wrote:So why didn't Per and TV take pens? Re: WBA in the whatever its called cup
This idea will probably be shat on by older folk on here but I don't understand why for the next round they don't switch with the leagues and play on a Saturday/Sunday for teams still involved.
Everyone knows the next round usually falls on half-term week, most parents don't enjoy bringing 7/8/9yrolds to a midweek night match and not getting home till 1am, especially if it there's extra time, so why not.
Keep the pricing sensible and presto full house, more young uns, less of us pissed old farts and probably a pretty good atmosphere......
I'll shut up now.

I wouldn't rate Per's chances too high unless he could try and head it in from 12 yards
