Kieran Gibbs

Post by topgoon »

Don't know where else to put this and can't find a Gibbo thread anywhere but he's just been called up by England as a replacement for vibrating mobile phone lover.

Well done mate, He's been pretty solid this season for us and is keeping a Spanish international out of the team. Another gooner representing In-Ger-Land at left back, just don't pick up any injuries if you do get on the pitch.

Well done Kieran :barscarf: :barscarf:

Yeah good for him. He's not the most talented but works bloody hard.

To step up he needs to work on his crossing. Hopefully someone at the England camp can do that with him.

Congrats KG !

Left back is probably the only position where England have an embarrassment of riches. Hole, Baines, Gibbs and that Rose spud fella. To be honest I don't see why gibbs can't play wide left, his competition there is milner isn't it? Hogson wouldn't do it in a qualifier but it would be a bold move and couldn't possibly be worse then Milner

I've seen less talented players to be honest, he can pick a pass and is technically sound with decent pace. Needs some end product but at least has more of that then Clichy ever had. Really like the lad, he seems to be benefiting from an injury-free run

I would expect an England International to be able to pass / shoot with their "wrong foot" when required.

I like Gibbs, he is decent, but to become better needs to improve his right foot. (as well as his crossing)

He can barely shoot with his good foot!

Good player and getting better but I'd rather keep him here, because as soon as he joins up with England he'll probably snap his ACL, plus he probably won't get a game anyway.

On current form he's England's best LB. All Baines has on him is crossing and set piece ability.

It's a pity his crossing and end product is pretty atrocious because not only is he pacey but he's actual useful going forward - he makes good runs and is generally composed on the ball in advanced areas, and he's some really hard graft on the training pitch away from adding 5-10 assists a season to his game. Certainly better for me than somebody like Kyle Walker who will charge up the touchline and then realise he's got fuck all ability and nothing will even nearly come of it. I also think Gibbs' defending has improved - although it could get a lot better - from when he first started playing regularly when he had more than a touch of the Clichys about him with bizarrely playing CFs onside etc.

As it is though I think that in the past he's been given far too much licence to get forward particularly given his lack of crossing ability, and I think Podolski last season was too restricted because he was having to track back and babysit the LB position far too much.

Would be really good to see him go a season without major or continued injuries but I'm not holding my breath.

Which is an absolutely massive difference. We don't have FBs that are particularly good at crossing so why they are encouraged to get forward as much as they do is strange.

Let them concentrate primarily on defending and release our wide men from the shackles of tracking back so much.

i wouldn't - have you actually seen England play recently ? LOL

yeah, i'd ply him mid left too - his passing and movement and workrate is fine, and obviously he knows how to track back. its the crossing thats pants.

we've missed nutty's shots and crosses ever since his reign of terror - remember those chelsea games ?

What a goal: http://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j& ... ms&cad=rja

I was seeing a bird who supported Chelsea at the time and went absolutely batshit mental when Nutty scored this beauty. I didn't get any that night. :?

I don't understand why a guy with notoriously poor end product for a full-back would then be deemed good enough to play on the wing? :? Especially one who negates the option of cutting inside largely because of his inability to use his weaker foot?

If all you're looking for is somebody to put in a shift then I'm far from his biggest fan but Milner is fine for that and has a bit more about him on the ball, understandably. Depends where you'd play Young who despite a downturn in form at United seems to perform in an England shirt.
