THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Just trying to inject some realism into this debate. I seriously cannot believe how many on here have suddenly lost their minds and started to get optimistic. We have been pretty average on a very easy run. That is about to end. simples.

Wenger out!

MORE NEGATIVITY :barscarf: :barscarf:

But on a serious note whilst we've been playing well our points return isn't phenomenal given the opposition we've played and many of the massive flaws that everyone was madly complaining about last year and even 6 weeks ago have still been left unaddressed. Do people really think we'll win the league with one striker who is average compared to the competition and a manager who confesses that he doesn't change the way we play based on opposition?

no problem, happy to oblige to see how many times someone can punch me in the face before I respond.

providing, I get to do the same in return in 9 years if my prophecy is right - i.e we will have won silverware on a few occasions AND it will be because of rather than inspite of Arsene.
Actually I think this would be a far more interesting way of doing this.... :D

If we're going down that route then I wonder which side of this debate might be likened to the 'Black Knight''? :)

interestingly I believe 'both' sides will see themselves as the King here

17 years at the helm. Could you imagine Arsenal without Wenger?

Bang on the button chippy - I dont know which is worse, the fans who have refused to acknowledge the obvious in the last few years and continue to back wenker, or those that were behind the calls to replace him and are now in favour of keeping him on the back of a good run against largely piss poor teams   These people will be devastated when this run comes to an end cos they didnt see it coming - it would be laughable if it wasnt so sad

But how many people have actually said "keep him on because of this good run"? I struggle to recall one tbh... :rubchin: What some people have said is keep him on if he wins the PL. At the end of the day the number one criteria for a successful manager in the PL is to win the PL. Does it really matter who the fuck that manager is? Really? Are some on here so embittered against Wenger they'd rather not win the PL at all rather than see Wenger win the PL with Arsenal? Really? That, to me, is ludicrous.

Now, before the doom mongers have a heart attack, I will qualify that by saying I do not believe for one minute Arsene will ever win a major trophy ever again, at least not at Arsenal. He is a spent force. His ego dictates his gameplan, he will not and cannot admit he has gotten it wrong with tippy tappy, and I still want him out. But I can be adult enough to also admit we've had a good run, albeit temporarily - that doesn't mean I am now an AKB. FFS there is no harm in giving credit where it's due.

And yes I agree with Lefty - if (IF) Wenger won the PL this year I'd be ok with him getting another year. After all he would have done what is ultimately asked of him. But of course it's never going to come to that. :|

I still firmly believe that Wenger will fuck up any chance that we have of winning anything, especially around last 16 time of the clge and the FA cup ties that fall around that time. We will have the usual 4-5 game period of pl. clge and fa cup ties, where he will gamble with his selections ultimately resulting in an exit from the fa cup and clge and dropping 2 or 3 places in the league, thus setting up the "title winning" run of form to try to make top 4.
That said were we to progress further in all competitions than we have in recent years before bowing out gracefully and maintain a serious title challenge to the end of the season, then I would be satisfied with that and be willing to give him another season, provided the areas that see us come up short are addressed.
ps I wouldn't accept a carling cup win as grounds to give him another season.
