Chavs (H) in the thingy cup

I'd rather we won the Emirates Cup.
Do you honestly mean that?
That I don't care about it? Absolutely. It was originally conceived as a consolation tournament for teams who had been knocked out of the FA Cup early. Right from its inception it has been a second tier tournament. It serves absolutely no purpose. We have a domestic cup competition and an excellent one at that in the FA Cup. Why the need for this other one? I just don't understand its existence. It's an annoying distraction and causes fixture pile ups for clubs that are in Europe.

As far as I'm concerned it's a nothing tournament. Even clubs in the Championship have started putting out second string 11s in it. It has no prestige or standing in English football. It's a money maker and that's about it.

Of course because we're playing the rent boys I hope we stuff them and I'll be there cheering on the team but will I be shedding any tears if we go out? Not at all. Likewise winning this competition does not constitute an end to the trophy drought in my opinion.

I agree with some of the above posters that this tournament should not be a priority and we should play the second string, but obviously whoever does play you'd expect to give a good account of themselves and hopefully we can sneak a win. I wouldn't be surprised to see Wilshere start and maybe play the more defensive role in midfield just because he didn't start yesterday and I don't think he will start against Liverpool.

Some of the attitude's above astound me - people have obviously forgotten about or barely care about the feeling of winning an actual piece of silverware and the satisfaction of a great day at Wembley
SteveO Its not the fans who have forgetten what its like to win a trophy or a trip to Wembley its the manager and the board who have put the prority of finishing 4th in front of a trophy. If they cant be bothered why should we
When people say they'd rather win the corporate pre-season cup over the League Cup, I suppose its time to really call it a day
So if we get knocked out of the CL by Dortmund and Napoli and go into the Thursday night pub league you will want Wenger to play strong teams in it like that mob up the road do.When Man u and City went in it they couldnt get knocked out quickly enough

And you wouldn't want us to ?

I bet when Alan Smith hit the back of the net in Copenhagen you weren't thinking "oh but its only the ECWC" and were sat there miserably pining for the Champions League? And when Charlie Nicholas fucked up Ian Rush's record at Wembley and won us our first piece of silverware in yonks were you saying "oh if only we'd rested some players"

First prize of a coned shaped hat with a big D on the front of it to the first person to say "oh but football's changed now"

So let me get this straight - if we win this cup it doesn't count to some people as ending our trophy drought?

Also from Rosicky's Right Boot whilst I understand your feelings towards the cup compared with the FA Cup, I hope to god your comment about rather winning that pre-season corporate farce was just a throwaway tongue in cheek comment. You might not value the League Cup much but a pre season warm up ??????

TV5 needs a run out for sure. Now with a number of important games coming thick and fast I just wonder would he be best employed in the now vacant Flamini role, in front of the now well established back four.

Me too, and about another 30,000 people trudged away in complete silence too, so I at least have some faith that not everyone is swallowed up in the glory of the 4th placed trophy

That was very much a joke. :D

It wouldn't count as ending our trophy drought for me because I don't consider it a serious competition. It'd be like being on the winning team during a kick about with your mates at the park.
