Re: Home against the mousers
i'd have Suarez to partner Giroud, but not to replace him.armchair supporter wrote:Rooney and Suarez are two of the best proven strikers in the world ffs.
Both could play alone or in a partnership. We were in for them both at different times.
We need a proven world class striker. I dont think anybody would disagree with that.
Out of my mind? No
Had a few Carlsberg? Well... probably.
Rooney i think is done. and Giroud outscored him last year. Rooney is 28, he's lost his pace and his motivation imho.
i'd like us to sign TWO strikers - a world class one and a good prospect. preferably not french african. or Danish.
Re: Home against the mousers
Great result!
Weird game. We certainly were the better side, and our midfield was mesmerising, but Liverpool could have scored a hat full themselves on another day.
I wasn't a fan of our substitutions either. Our midfield was on top, so bringing off Rosicky and Cazorla for Jenkinson and Monreal seemed unnecessary to me and gave Liverpool a glimpse of hope as we struggled to retain possession.
Still, who cares? - 5pts clear and a win against a decent team

Re: Home against the mousers
For me Rooney is far from done.
If he came to us that'd be all the motivation hed need. A fresh start. He'd be great for us.
Both Rooney and Suarez can come deep, create, start moves then get in the box and finish them off.
Giroud is a target man, a hold up and lay off front player. Completely different. I wonont knock Giroud but hes not in the same bracket.
Wenger right now doesn't play with two up front so the Suarez/Giroud partnership doesnt fly.

Have we past our test yet or is it only a proper test if we lose?

I also raised an eyebrow at the subs but then chastised myself with the fact that I havent worked half a day in football and dont earn in the region of 6 mill a year.g88ner wrote:Great result!![]()

I truly adore beating the bin dippers.

Pretty much. They've got their articles all typed and ready to go for the next time we lose in the league, it's about how the players react to it when it happens. In the past we've tended to pile defeats on top of each other, which is one of the most impressive things about today considering how useless we looked against the chavs, albeit that was in the shit cup.spike241 wrote:Have we past our test yet or is it only a proper test if we lose?

Yeah, I'm very happy with the result today. I didn't think we'd do it but credit to the players. It's a great start to the month, rebuilding the confidence and self-belief that we're really going to need!LDB wrote:Pretty much. I don't think we will, but I really hope we win the league just to piss of Lineker and the other pricks that would rather die a slow, agonising death than offer a positive comment about us. We'll see where we are in January, it's not that far away.
EDIT: We're first up on MOTD, there's a shocker (not that I've watched it in years)

Re: Home against the mousers
Lets reserve judgment until next week - the two toughest tests are coming up next. I genuinely believe the team are still haunted by that 8-2 debacle at the Theatre of Sleep and have been abject there in recent years. The prawn sandwich munchers will get behind them that day and Moyes will have them flying into us like he had Everton doing to us at the bowl last yearspike241 wrote:Have we past our test yet or is it only a proper test if we lose?

Chance to put 11 points between us......think its a massive, pivotal game in the season. United 5 points behind and their first BIG win under Moyes, or 11 points behind and the plastics all booing and jamming up the phone lines from Surrey to Devon calling for his head

Re: Home against the mousers
Rosicky and Caz came off ahead of the BVB game.
i think usually walcott and ox would have replaced them.
attacking wise we are down to bare bones so i actually agreed with the subs this week.
its incredible that we have SIX midfielders out - pod and ox still a month away, walcott two weeks, wilshire a week, flam a week, and diaby April.
our medical and fitness situation is disgraceful. pod pulled his hammy in August FFS. normal tears are 3-4 weeks.
We have 9 out, compared to city who have 3 and City just 1.

Re: Home against the mousers
I'll be reserving judgement until the end of the season, I'm just sick of the media acting like we've only beaten crap teams.
I think we've shown we're a completely different team to last season. We're not perfect and we've got a long way to go but if we sign a striker in January then we're heading in the right direction for a change.

Totally agree with that - replacing one midfielder with a defender is bad enough and hands the inititive to the opposition but to replace two midfielders with defenders is fcuking madness
