REVEALED! The Premier League's quietest fans...

We certainly have the reputation for it and it's deserved in the sense that our atmosphere is usually shite but as others have said we're far from the only one. I think a lot of this reputation is down to the fact that we're the only big club to have moved to a modern stadium. Because every other big club is still in their old grounds they trade off history and nostalgia. We're the easy target for lazy journalists/pundits

no way is it any quieter than anfield, they have had a major rise in touristy fans of late. as for craven cottage 90% of fulhams' fanbase find it a struggle to stand up and celebrate when their team scores! our away support makes up for our home atmosphere I think, something I can't say for a lot of clubs in the league

A poll isn't exactly the best way to decide it like, and particularly not one on talksport's website - a lot of those voting have probably never even been to an Arsenal match, they'll be armchair "United" fans who hear people mentioning the Arsenal fans being quiet and will take it as gospel.

The Emirates is fairly quiet in my experience but then any ground with ticket prices like Arsenal's will suffer the same fate, I've been to Liverpool and going there with Sunderland is a world away from the "great European night at Anfield" atmosphere, you can normally hear a pin drop. The atmosphere at the Emirates is no worse than many other home grounds, there's a decent "buzz" goes around when Arsenal attack but there aren't many songs and loads of people don't sing at all, like I say, same as most PL grounds.

Arsenal's away fans are very good though, always travel in large numbers, always loud and have a decent number of songs, I think the quality of away support is a better one to judge tbh, it shows the passion of the people who can be arsed to travel around the country watching their team and for that one Arsenal would be nowhere near the bottom. Everton always travel in good numbers as well (although they're not always loud), Man United's away support are wankers but definitely make a noise, West Ham don't have much in the way of songs but they travel in good numbers - Villa are about the worst I suppose, only one shite song and they never bring many up, especially considering they're a decent PL side most seasons (West Brom who are decent bring a lot more and make more of an atmosphere)

Wow, I'm heartbroken. Really means a lot to me whether we're the best singers or not

Upon what sort of scientific basis is other fans voting (and talkshite listening fans at that) conclusive? Our home support might not be on the same level as say Dortmund's, but it's a lot better than a lot of the league.

I've been to Anfield twice and twice I've been stunned by just how silent it actually is. Bar their cheesy musical where most of the noise is piped in, it's as dead as a morgue. Everton's fans had their first half hearted chant just before the half time break when we beat them 0-1 up there a few years ago and that is no exaggeration. Stoke is another ground that is commonly thought to have an atmosphere when it's just not true. Their fans don't sing; all they do is make strange faces in a primitive attempt at communication. I could go on.

As usual though it's easy for people to cotton on along a media narrative of 'Arsenal having quiet support and everyone else is fantastic.' The fact is that home support amongst almost every club in the top league is no where near what it used to be. The reasons for that are obvious and have been discussed to death and a few people have already commented on our away support which is always fantastic.

I'd wager a large sum of money that the vast majority of those respondents in the poll haven't even set foot in London, let alone the Emirates. Judging atmosphere by television doesn't work either; we know that Sky place their microphones next to the away crowd and you can even hear them adjusting the sound during the game.

Watching games on TV this season I think Crystal Palace must have loudest supporters....cannot see the point in this debate...someone posted a picture of Asian Liverpool fans on facebook as proof that Liverpool had the best supporters in the world .. There are many things that make up a football supporter, being loud and passionate in a stadium is just one. If someone who is a student of the game and they sit in silence absorbed in a game does it make them a lesser supporter.? Does the loudest guy in the stadium know the history and heritage of his club ? Is the first person in the queue to buy the new shirt a more loyal supporter than the one who feels no need or interest in buying club merchandise ?
I love loud singing in a stadium, it adds so much to the game, but I have attended many Gaelic games where with the exception of Dublin support there is little or no chanting/singing and that takes nothing from the occasion.
The thing I hate most in any sport (or rugby) is the fair weather band-wagon jumping types .

I remember a Merseyside derby in the late 90s or early 2000s when Kevin Campbell scored in a 1-0 win for Everton at Anfield..after the goal the Everton fans were chanting "are there any Scousers on the Kop ?" I would imagine there is a big tourist thing at Anfield, also remember reading that Manchester based United fans resent the fortnightly invasion by their "fans" from all over Europe. I presume because it categorises the genuine traditional fan as being the same as the tourist.

I've never been to Goodison Park but that's another ground that seems to trade off past glories. Can rarely hear a peep from the home fans off the telly but maybe someone who's been there can say otherwise?

I concur, not been their for a while but the last time I was their, it was deathly quiet.

Granted it was the 7niler a few years back when Shitty were disrupting their start by tapping up Lescott but even before we scored, they were not that vociferous and got quieter still once we started scoring.

Small clubs when they first get into the prem are usually the noisiest. Couple of seasons ago when we played Swansea around xmas/new year(3-2 defeat) I thought that was one of the noisiest grounds I'd been to in a while but having watched their Europa games on ITV they seem to be quiet at home now......that's what a bit of success does for you....a whole bunch of fans who "want to be entertained"
