To be fair next weekend is the real test. Obviously a good result last night but Liverpool are the 6th best team in the league, they'll fall a way short of CL football again never mind champions. Dortmund are obviously a brilliant team and it's going to be very difficult out there but for me OT is the litmus test because United are picking up a bit of form, rarely lose big games at home and have swept us aside for years now. Get a result there and it may make a few people reassess.

First of all It was a test against Napoli, then it was a test against Liverpool, now its a test against the mancs.

People view things differently but I never saw the Liverpool game as a massive benchmark because they are a shit team bar two good strikers, we have a very good recent record against them and they won't be anywhere near the top come the return fixture.

I equally didn't view the Dortmund game as a watershed moment because they're much better than anything in the PL right now and it's a completely different type of game to playing Chelsea, City or United. We could have won and not dispelled the doubts of our title credentials for me or we could have lost but not confirmed them. Likewise with Chelsea League Cup game - I was fucking pissed off to lose especially in the way we did but ultimately didn't tell us anything we didn't already know about the relative state of the ressies.

For me couldn't get any more of a litmus test than United away because they're bound to be in the mix at the end of the season, as I said they rarely get turned over at home in the massive games and moreover because the way we've been brushed aside there in the last few years has summed up our limitations and fragility.

At the moment we've started the season well but we haven't played any of the top 3 teams and we've played Liverpool and Spurs at home. We were brilliant against Napoli but poor against Dortmund, and like I said those games aren't the same as playing against Mourinho's Chelsea or against United. Given our performance against the top 3 last year (2 points from 18) is it really that unreasonable to suggest the jury is still out until we play them?

Every game is a test and thankfully we are passing most of them, but ultimately the real test is where we finish in the league and how we sustain our challenge over the whole season.
I won't necessarily consider us a failure if we don't win the league, but I will if we are out of contention by February and I will consider it even more of a failure if we drop out because Wenger doesn't strengthen in January.

Yesterday's performance was good but it wasn't our best performance, that was the 1st 45mins home to Napoli.

The result was only put in doubt because we didn't take our chances enough, no offence to the mousers but we could have put 4 or 5 past them yesterday.

Their midfield makes a lie of their start to the season. They badly missed their wingbacks and why on earth wasn't Coutinho playing from the start. He made a huge difference when he came on.

Arteta,Rambo and Santi were immense in midfield, with Rambo making Gerrard look like the old man that he is.

It was another test of resolve especially missing Flamini but the biggest test of the week will be Dortmund. Arteta and Rambo have to impose themselves on Blaszczykowski,Mhikitaryan and Reus.I think an overload of Santi,Ozil and Rosicky will give Sahin and Reus more to think about than we did 2 weeks ago.

SaS got nothing from their midfield and Suarez is such a selfish :censored: , he could have squared the ball in the 90thmin for a Sturridge tap in.

As much as we've got no chance of staying were we are in the league come Jan/Feb I'm still glad we are doing the Squirrel equivalent of storing up points for when it gets colder and darker in Nov/Dec and we start stuttering.

I thought coutinho was shite

Played one decent ball down the channel for the racist but otherwise spent 45 minutes passing to arsenal players

Yeah I thought Coutinho was poor too. I guess he was never going to have the sort of time on the ball that he would have liked - as I've said before the players they have just aren't good enough to support playing a luxury midfielder and two strikers away at a team like us. But saying that there were a few times where he got in between the lines and wasted it by overhitting slide-rule passes.

Great win. TBH I'd have taken a draw before the kick off as I had a bad feeling about this one. But we showed the Mousers up for the fairly average team they are. They have 1 world class striker and 1 very good striker but the rest of them are pretty average and the fact that a VERY past-it Stevie Me is getting picked on his reputation more than his performances says it all about Rogers as a manager. And Jordan Henderson is pure shite.

Thought Ramsey was borderline for a lot of the first half, underpassing too many balls but he really came into it in the 2nd, calming play down when needed and doing the simple things effectively. His goal was superb too, brilliant technique.

Giroud, Rosicky and Cazorla impressed me as well, never stopped working and linking up and Cazorla's goal was brilliant. Can't help thinking if it had been Giroud heading it he'd have been looking at the sky with his hands on his head as the ball came back out off the post... not knocking Giroud (whom I've defended on here since he joined) but it was a brilliant bit of awareness and hunger from Santi.

Special word for Kos and Mert. Got protected alot by Arteta but they still dealt with the SAS (  ) very well mostly.

Arteta was MOTM by a country mile though. I rate Flamoney as a good DM but I'll say it again, I think Arteta is better in that role because he is more intelligent, anticipates play and keeps it simple. Arteta very seldom needs to go flying in with the Hollywood lunge type tackle because 9 times out of 10 he has sorted it before it gets to that stage. I think the possibility of them both working together might be a good one, maybe giving the back 4 that cover that Petit and Vieira did so effectively in 98.

A great win, but agree that the far bigger test is next Sunday at the Theatre of Shite.

I feel like an outsider, as I am watching less games 'live' whilst in the land down under.

It's good to read NB123's observations, posts and replies though. His perspective is as biased (generally) as mine. Slighty left of augie's and not as belligerent as Armchair's. 8)

I am very, very happy that we are 5 (five) points ahead of the creme de la creme in the PL, and we are into NOVEMBER

I still shout out for WENGER OUT though

Glad that somebody else finds my posts worthwhile reading TL

On a smugly satisfying note how shit was Gerrard? I know he's been declining for years but he was so far off the pace. Even when they started brightly and were playing orite he was still a passenger, never got into the game and despite a number of poor performances from them he was the worst.

Also really enjoyed the chant to Suarez when he went to take the corner - "you should have signed for a big club, signed for a biiiiiiig club"  :barscarf:

No point now, time to move on and worry about Dortmund and manure. Unlike the scum we don't feel the need to get a DVD out for what in hindsight was a straightforward win because we played to our strengths.
