Man City away prices.

Man City away prices.

Post by samflitt »

Earlier this week the prices were announced for Man City away £56 for lower tier and £58 for upper tier.

A lot of talk has been going on about how Arsenal fans should boycott this...
Is it just me who thinks this will have no effect whatsoever. 1st of all we're top of the league and the game will sell out regardless and if by some miracle we did manage to boycott nothing would change as Man City would just sell to home fans instead.

What does everyone else think on the boycott issue and if there is any solution?

So their away ticket is less than 10% cheaper than ours which they campaigned so vehemently against last year. For all their money spent they're not champions, we actually paid for and own our stadium which shits on theirs and cost of living (including entertainment) in London more than accounts for the difference.

Now I'm not saying for a minute our prices are morally justifiable (although home fans get the brunt having to pay it week in week out) but considering the way our club in particular was vilified it does irk me a bit that they get away without being publicly slammed in the same way.

At the end of the day it's unpopular but clubs do have SOME justification for ticket pricing in that they are dictated by market forces. If they want to rip off Joe Average and price him out of the game as far as I'm concerned they should be allowed to - nobody has an inherent right to be able to afford football tickets - and it's them that will lose out in the long run.

I think the only way it will ever be cheap(er) for away fans if the Premier league insists on an away ticket price cap and all clubs have to follow the guidelines, otherwise if this carries on we will be seeing our 1st 100 quid away ticket.

Never mind us, the players usually do their own boycott against one of the title contenders and fail to turn up.

The She Wore twitter page put up a blog and told everyone to boycott it and seen a few people talking about it. Personally I'm not boycotting (Main reason: I've already booked my trains lol)

People will moan about the prices but still pay up and our section will be sold out. On we go, and City will put the prices up again next year. People will moan but still pay up. Repeat ad infinitum.

British fans are so spineless

When you have one of the biggest fan bases in England of course it is going to sell out. I don't think a boycott will ever work. It requires letters being sent to clubs and marches etc

May I suggest that anyone lucky (or not) enough to get a ticket for this game brings a banner similar to the the one they brought to the Emirates last season regarding ticket prices?

Funny how this will receive no full page spreads in the media about it either, or does that additional £4 or so make all the difference? :rubchin:

The media coverage last season was nothing to do with the fact we charged them £62, it was because enough City fans said "this isn't on", refused to buy tickets & sent 1,000 back. That was probably the first time that a stand had been taken against ticket prices on a large scale. If that hadn't happened & they'd sold out their allocation, nothing would have been said.

You want media coverage of City's £58 tickets? Then we need to do the same thing, return a large portion of our tickets.

This is never going to happen, a culmination of things. One being we have a way better support than Man City and 2. everyone wants to go now we're top of the league

It undoubtedly helped with the coverage but let's be fair the media centred far more on the £62 figure and the whinging of the Citeh fans than on the fact they'd sent tickets back.

I think the reality is that for all the people that watch football on TV etc only a very very small proportion actually go to Category A games at grounds like ours. People had read about astronomical ticket prices but were still shocked by the £62 figure and that's why it got so much coverage, not because they returned tickets.

Even if we returned the same number of tickets it would have half the interest as last time because it's a bigger game this time round, Citeh don't play pantomime villains as well as us and it's already been done!
