Will we be top at Xmas or on New Years Day?

Post by IrishJB »

If we are on either, it does give us supporters a 'fix', a nice feeling for sure and we can sing a few more songs right?

It'd give us a nice jolly feeling at the forthcoming festive season :D

But, the facts are that most winners of the PL haven't been top at Christmas or indeed New Years day.

But maybe (if we're not going to win it) it'd be nice to enjoy the party - that is if we get top at Christmas and/or New years day.

So what have we to do .... Beat Southampton which will be a toughie in itself and we could have done with this game sooner after our failing yesterday to take at least a point.....

Then we kinda have it nicely set up with Cardiff away and Hull at home, so it'd be great to have between 7 and 9 points in the bank before a really tricky 5 PL games in 21 days (aways at Citeh, Hammers and the in form Geordies, with only 2 homes though against the sticky toffees and the celery mob to come).

Who gives a ???? well i'd hope those who comment have a gut feeling or something to offer ?

Top at Xmas? Top NY day? Top on both? 5th or lower? take your pick

Newcastle will probably have fallen out of form, played a few blinders and then start playing terribly again by the time we play them! Have to be looking 9 points from 9 the next 3 games but apart from our propensity for bottling big games apparently well and truly alive, we are going to get so caught out with our lack of depth. Hopefully we'll have a few players back to allow us to rotate but equally could have more injuries and whatever happens the pressure on Giroud - particularly given the amount of work he has to get through each game as lone striker - is ridiculous.

Does anybody really expect us to come through Everton (H), Napoli (A), Citeh (A), Chelsea (H), Shammers (A), Newcastle (A) in 3 weeks with flying colours?

We won't be top come May and that's ultimately all that really matters!

Too weak a squad will cost us dearly methinks, but we'll be very well placed for the 4th place virtual trophy halfway through the season. Not so sure we'll still be in the CL then though!!

Back in our rightful 4th spot that we've clung to so valiantly in recent years

If not top then 2nd.
We need to be right up there to attract any decent signings in the January window.
I couldn't see Benzema (spelling?) coming to a club that was sliding down the league.

32 votes in with nearly half saying we'll be 3rd or 4th xmas / turn of the year. Are we being pessimistic or realists?

A bit of both I think. If Ramsey and/or Giroud get injured or even have a dip in form we will struggle to score goals. So I think the thin nature of our squad worries alot of us.

Manure might not win anything under Moyes but they will grind out results and they will get into that top 3 and stay there. Citeh and the chavs will start to improve too.

I think we'll be second, but feel there will be a low number of points separating 1-5.
