Away Trips Go Bad

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It is quite easy to get lost when leaving Schalke stadium, I was getting the Metro back to town and along with a few other Arsenal fans we managed to get to the station but only after walking down the tracks while dodging other trams. It must happen alot as the police just let us jump onto the platform and didn't seem to care.

The facilities at Montpellier have to be my most basic, just a few porterloos for the away fans with no light so when the door was closed you had to hope you were inline. I didn't see any food or drink either. (Though Milan wasn't much better) Waiting in the rain in Marseilles would have been alot less fun if we hadn't scored a late winner. The bus took us to the wrong end of the stadium where we met some very confused Marseilles fans.

I still remember the bus trip from the hotel in Montpellier to Marseilles airport as I am sure the driver went the wrong way as it took forever and we went round what felt like every possible roundabout. I think we were running very late and the coach driver may have been caught for speeding by a camera as when we were eventually on the main road towards the end we were going quite fast compared to other traffic and I am sure I saw a speed camera go off.

More recent than the ones posted here but the League Cup Final against Chelsea at Cardiff in 2007.

My mate had pulled out of his ticket that morning due to something sudden happening so I went on my own. Left in good time to catch the train from Paddington but for some reason Paddington had not realised there were thousands of Arsenal and Chelsea fans leaving London that day so was stood in a queue going round the station.

Took over an hour to get on the train but still thought I'd make it with a couple of hours to spare for a few beers. Turns out there is a signal failure after about an hour and a half on the train with hundreds of Gooners on there. Talk of delays to the kick off time didn't happen and eventually rolled into Cardiff at half time, missing Theo Walcotts goal and the equaliser.

Arrived to watch 45 minutes of football, us concede and lose the final with 10 minutes left to play and a 22 man brawl. Got back to the station and because of the signal failures was stood in a queue for two hours with gloating Chelsea fans before even getting on a train, ended up rolling into London at gone midnight and made the last tube by the skin of my teeth, ready to wake up at 5am the next morning to go to work....worst away day I've ever had.

I stayed overnight in Bristol before and after, after taking advice for the 2001 FA Cup loss to Liverpool.

From what i heard, it was the same story then - delays and signal failures, only the trains were full of gloating london mickeys coming back.

i myself waited two hours in a nearby pub, then went to the station and still waited an hour and a half just to get an express to Bristol. I was about five minutes away from pissing on the platform before it rolled in - i even pleaded with a WPC to turn her back, my bladder was BURSTING.

BR = fucking useless. i can't believe it was the same six years later. FA knew it too :banghead:
