Still don't get what the big deal is with that £40m+£1 bid for Suarez. Or at least, I do "get it", I just think it's overplayed and wasn't really much of an issue.

We were clearly told by Suarez' people that a bid of over £40m would trigger a clause... so we did just that; tested the clause, found out it was bollocks, were told by Liverpool there's no way in hell they'd sell, so we changed targets and signed Ozil for £42m+ instead.

You say small time, but we wanted to make a significant signing - one who would make people sit up and think "fuck me, Arsenal mean business here" and we did just that.

Anything more than would trigger the supposed clause would have been wasted money. The only problem is, if the clause isn't there (which it wasn't) it's gonna piss Liverpool off (which it did ) - but who cares? Liverpool don't ever sell us players anyway... well, apart from Jimmy Carter
