WHAM - this (Last) Christmas

So beating a team in the relegation zone gives you hopes of winning the title? SMFH!!!

I think all of this pessimism has to stop. I'm not pro-Wenger either, but these three points are as vital to our campaign as they would be against any other side. And I know we did go behind against them yesterday, but I don't think we played bad as a whole at all.

We are likely to be top over the New Year when everyone and their dog said we wouldn't even be top by November, which means so far that the team has massively exceeded our expectations, but we still have posters on here sulking all over the shop :banghead: .

We are doing far better than we have been over recent seasons, so why don't we all just get behind the team instead of blasting everything they say and do?

I was pretty happy with Vermaellen yesterday and in the previous match. He looks to have his head screwed on a bit better and we do need a good back up to Kos and the BFG. There was still the occasional unnecessary foray into the opposition half but he definitely has talent.

But again we seen his reckless charges up the pitch with no regard of where he needs to be  At one stage yesterday he left mert with a 1 v 1 with Carlton cole but luckily BFG sorted it out but, given mertesackers lack of pace, I wouldn't be comfortable with him being left isolated like that too often

So? Oh yeah, I forgot...

How dare I give Wenger or the players any credit, I mean they are only top of the table when everyone said they wouldn't be  .

I think when you switch from throwing around Wenger criticism for fun to "all this pessimism has to stop" and speaking down from their pedestal at others for supposedly not getting behind the team you're gonna get a bit of stick.

Some people on here would only be happy if we won that game 5-0.

What is not to like, our 1st time this season coming from behind :)

I would like to think that we are all happy and a little surprised that we are top of the tree at the moment. If you had said that to me after the villa match I would have laughed in your face.

Where some (including me) are refusing to get carried away is that the same old fragility is still there.

We go toe to toe against City on their patch where they clearly have more firepower than us, yet we refuse to aggressively attack a pretty poor Man Utd team in a similar fasion (or Chelsea for that matter)

Our only striker being burnt out / not being of sufficient quality to convert the numerous chances we make.

Lack of flexibility against stubborn defences (would 2 up top for the last 10 mins v Chelsea when we were crying out for a goal have been so bad ?)

And the fact that we have been here time and time again, promising much but only to collapse worse than Devon Loch in the run in.

The players talking about how they are going to do this and that, yet when it comes to the big games they are exposed as pretenders.

The manager moaning about everything under the sun to the 4th official, the pitch, how we are jaded (we had a 9 day break before Chelsea ffs) the fixture list, how no one is available to buy, it just goes on and on year in year out.

Will this season be any different, maybe, I hope so, but seriously doubt it unfortunately.

Just watched the game back and can confirm that people who criticise Ozil know f**k all about football. Until he went off we didn't put together a decent move that didn't either involve a sublime pass or him making one or two west ham players look like right c**ts.

Those who criticise him for not being James Milner should f**k off and follow the SPL. Watch him when we've got the ball, that's when he is on the move and that's not to say he doesn't do his fair share of tracking back.

Mesut :barscarf: :barscarf:

PS. Nice to see Santi playing well again

Even when Ozil is playing poorly he can still change a game in a second, that's talent. But having said that he is starting to look disinterested and knackered. I thought that was his usual relaxed personality but his body language is worrying sometimes. Santi had the same look a few months after he joined.
