Groundhog summer transfer window thread

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We're in a great position now and must look like an attractive proposition for transfer targets. We should seize this opportunity and go in hard for a top striker next month. Wenger cost us the title in 2008 by not signing a striker in the January window. He surely can't make that same mistake again, or could he? :(

Lads, I thought that as a nice change it would be good if we locked this thread at midnight on 31st Dec 2013 and re-opened it on the 1st Feb 2014 to see what actually happened, as opposed to listing all the speculative shite, most if not all of which is unlikely to happen. What say you? :rubchin: :rubchin:

I would suggest we lock this thread forever so as to prevent us from having recurring heart attack

We all want a top striker and we've probably got 40+ million if necessary.

So who do we want?

Unless AW has unearthed a gem (and it's a very long time since he did that) the list of top, top strikers is short.

Lewandowski, Suarez, Cavani, Falcao, Balotelli, Costa, Hernandez, Pato (or any other Brazilian), etc.

Could we actually get any of them?

I'd like them in that order, but I not optimistic that any of them are likely arrivals. If not, are there any strikers available obviously better than Giroud?
Balotelli is reported to want out of Milan (and they want to see him gone), but I doubt we could afford him. Nothing has been announced about Lewandowski's future, but even I'm not optimistic enough to think we could get him.
Morata is well thought of here and it's hoped that he'll be first choice next year ahead of Benzema (who divides opinion), so Real are unlikely to sell.

Even if AW was minded to buy, it won't be an easy get.

So who can we get and who do you want?

Isn't that exactly what a rumour is ? Great to get excited but also to bear in mind that most is complete bullshit made up to sell papers / get website hits anyway it makes a change from us all moaning about being top of the league.

Still think that lewandowski is gettable for any big club IF they make real serious moves to sign him - there is no doubt that dortmund wont want him to go to bayern so if a decent sum was offered to them it could nudge them to force the issue

Don't worry Stuart, I was only kidding. It was worth suggesting it just for McDowell's reaction.

Transfer news: Olivier Giroud tells Arsenal they don't need another striker

Giroud rhymes with delude - he's very much mistaken!

Costa or Falcao. I'd have Pato as well, think Wenger could re-ignite him.
