Previous Newcastle v Arsenal matches

Post by StuartL »

Back by popular demand.......... :)

I have never been to St James Park so have no personal recollections to share.

However, we have Dennis' wonder goal (anybody there to witness it ?) along with Sol header to secure a 2-0 win.

The trophy clinching goal by Kos last year and It does seem to be a fairly happy hubnting ground for us over the years, Obviously the 4-4 from a couple of years ago we should have won too and also when Gervinho got sent off after being picked up in the penalty box by his neck by Barton should have been a different outcome too.

Happiest memory was definitely Dennis's goal which he DID mean !!!!!

Worst memory was shitface Dowd getting 4 assists as we earned another proud PL record up there in the 4-4 (although it was all Abou's fault as all teams let in 4 when down to 10 men)

Supermac scoring two up there in 1977 on his first return to Newcastle...Stevie Bould in 1988..and Denis in 02...St James park..first ever ground I visited in England.... Newcastle v Nottingham Forest..1987..a very young Gazza in a very poor Newcastle side beaten 1-0 by Forest on a building site..

Didn't Lee Dixon get one of his rare non-penalty goals with a header up there in the early nineties in another away win ?

Need to win this one too, to give us momentum back prior to the tint totts cup match.

Before Sunday, my last visit to St James Park was back in the 1990's. If memory serves me right (for the first time  !), Adams was sent off giving away the penalty which Shearer put away to put them 1-0 up. So down to 10 men and losing away from home...

We turned the game around to win 2-1, with Wright scoring the winner.

I was sitting in the Gallowgate as went to the game with some Geordies, but by the end of the game everyone around us knew I was a gooner but no problems. They even joined me in applauding Arsenal off the pitch. Superb performance!

EDIT: Looked it up and it was 1996. Quite impressed as the only thing I got wrong was that Newcastle's goal made it 1-1, not 1-0... Newcastle's front line was Faustino Asprilla, Peter Beardsley, David Ginola & Alan Shearer! And the win meant we replaced them at the top of the table!

Around Christmas time 2004 we turned them over 1-0, gritty game but a great goal from Paddy thumping a bouncing ball home.

A mate of mine is a big Newcastle fan and was giving it quite a bit of chat before the 4-4 game. Needless to say I felt it safe to return it back with interest at 4-0. When the equaliser went in my phone came off significantly worse in a collision with the wall in my student house and unlike my laptop after the 3-2 Spurs defeat it didn't make a miraculous escape. Salvaged the SIM and replaced the phone the following Monday. As soon as I turned it on it started ringing - still wasn't man enough to answer - and then I got a message through saying I had 37 missed calls from him and a number of voicemails to boot.

Also met my girlfriend's family for the first time a few weeks after that. All the blokes are football mad Geordies and gave it a lot of friendly banter from the off about the 4-4 until I asked the question which of their two FA Cup final no-shows was more disappointing. Still waiting for an answer.
