THE WENGER THREAD
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
3 wins in a row = Wenger must stay. The easy January fixtures and the realisation that he hasn't yet signed the contract (which traditionally gets mentioned every waking hour by the press at the turn of the year) means that the singing of There's Only One will become even more passionate as Lord Wenger's flock reach feverish levels of desperation.
A wry smile, 8m per annum and a quote along the lines of "I always knew I would be staying" meanwhile will send Rodders to rehab

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Another poor performance for 85 minutes today. Against a bottom half team with no manager, Wenger looked clueless again.
Poor tactics and preparation are outweighed by the dross we beat.
No service for pod, few chances created and the 'get at them' mentality is just not there.
Contrast that with Liverpool and City's away performances and the air is getting pretty thin at the top.
The spuds of all people highlighted wengers incompetence today - 4 away wins at OT this year, and we never even got close.
Wenger may still have an eye for talent but football has passed him by.
Any team he 'prepares' doesn't have a hope against Bayern.
Time to say au revoir.

I'll have my own suite in the Priory before the ink is dry on the contractSteveO 35 wrote:3 wins in a row = Wenger must stay. Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
the easy January fixtures give Wenger the perfect excuse not to dip into the transfer market.
there is every chance that we will be leading the Prem into February. We could even be on top into March and the deluded masses at the Emirates will be proclaiming the title is on its way.
then take a look at the fixture list for March...oh dear

Yes, there's a lot of focus on the mid-February fixtures (when the CL resumes and the fifth round of the FA Cup rears its ugly head), but our real test is at the end of March.Gunner Rob wrote:the easy January fixtures give Wenger the perfect excuse not to dip into the transfer market.

Four consecutive fixtures: Tottenham (A), Chelsea (A), Man City (H), Everton (A).
That will likely be the undoing of our title push, if its not already over before then.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Just got my copy of Bergkamp's book and flicked to the back to read this about the players at Ajax.
"I'm good at observing, seeing our potential and our shortcomings. I watch everything, and it bothers me when I see performances which don't meet the standards we expect. If anyone - anyone - isn't pulling their weight, then the details aren't in order, and that is unacceptable"
"What do you do then ? "
"We intervene. At the end of the season we do the same with the trainers, the medical staff, the people responsible for the pitches and the equipment as we do with the players. We review everyone and decide who is good enough to continue. Sure, we're very tough but we want to be a top club and to accomplish that you have to be ruthless in maintaining the top standards. "
Get this man back to our club, in whatever capacity he wants and let him run the rule over our whole set up.

Top of the league, best defensive record, still in the CL, the most points in the calendar year... Seems AW is doing better than a lot of people care to admit...

To coin a well worn AKB phrase "judge him in May". When we're out of all competitions with just a glorious VT win at Carrow Road to play forgavbacon wrote:Top of the league, best defensive record, still in the CL, the most points in the calendar year... Being top of the league and still in Europe in Januray 2014 just edges out Mickey Thomas in 1989 as my greatest feeling as a goonerLeyton Gooner wrote:To coin a well worn AKB phrase "judge him in May". Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Wengers had a couple of bad seasons but, points per game he's comfortably the best Arsenal manager of all time.
We're currently top of the league because we have a great manager. He's made mistakes, but realistically, he provides us the best chance of winning trophies in the next two or three seasons. I honestly wouldn't swap him for any other manager in world football.

Cameron - I'm sorry about this. I've tried to stop my Dad from hacking other people's accounts.....cameron326 wrote:Wengers had a couple of bad seasons but, points per game he's comfortably the best Arsenal manager of all time.
