Sweet jesus....I cannot believe that there is any Gooner insane enough to believe barbietov to be a good signing for us For the first time in years we have a chance at success, we have funds sitting in the bank account and you want wenker to piss it away on the cheap option ? Of course many of the better strikers are cup tied for Europe but who gives a fcuk about Europe cos we aint gonna win champs league anyway - the league should be our runaway priority and if signing a champs league cup tied player helps us win a league then I would be happy out
Who was talkign about Europe? You really didn't read what I said at all. Costa etc are not going to come. Athletico are top of the league and in Europe, why would he WANT to go? Name a top striker in Europe at the moment that we could ACTUALLY sign. Coupled with the fact Chelsea and most other clubs in World football are also looking for a top class centre forward. Also, if you want these top clas splayers you will have to wait probably right to the end of the transfer window ala Ozil, to get them. But patience and some people on this forum do not go hand in hand.

I was stating that I would rather Berbatov than nothing, and that if he was signed IF, he would do a a decent job for us, given his talent and experience.

People also throwing out the 5 goals in 16 games this season, should ask themselves if they would sign Benteke who has been all manner of shit this season? 1 bad half a season does not make a bad player.

If Berbatov was a half decent option then one of the world's greatest ever football managers would not have happily cast him aside in the way that he did. Berbatov is happy being the main man somewhere - can anyone honestly see him being galvanised by being a replacement back up option for Le Chapman........just can't see how it would work out for him or for us.

Some of us of course didn't get carried away by Benteke's one good season or Michu's for that matter. I wouldn't want either of those two or Berbatov or Remy

He could have signed Higuain if we wanted him. He may possibly have been able to sign Suarez and he may possibly be able to sign Costa. If it isn't someone of that calibre then fuck it, who really cares because any of those Grade B or lower strikers mentioned above will not make us any more than the virtual trophy contenders we've become

What about Ibisevic from Stuttgart?

31 in 56 for Club and Country last season and off to a good start this season, with 19 in 29.

Watched him play a few times and his finishing and agility was impressive.

If it was a choice between Remy and nobody, I'd take Remy. If it was a choice between Berbatov and nobody I'd take nobody.

That's the type of insight you just don't get on other forums 8)

Ibisevic would be cheap, unknown and unwanted by the major clubs....

He might be coming.

New Year and Rodders still makes me laugh!!

By the way, my mind goes back to 1992 when Utd signed Cantona from Leeds Leeds Leeds Leeds...Bought him on the cheap and he won them the title........Maybe Berbatov is our lazy, laid back version who would also steer us to glory?!?!?!?!?

Eboue-Why me old mucker you must still be on the sherry if you think Berba could be such an influence on us. He makes Arshavin look like a work horse the way he strolls around the pitch. Speaking of sherry my head is bursting today after a day on the sauce yesterday, I'm packing it in until contract extension day :barscarf:

I've not heard of that Bundesliga striker. Do you have Arsene's email? Right now he must be googling "cheap, available strikers" until late at night.
Can't quite believe the desperation of the Berba fan club and besides, we all know Arsene's views on smokers.

I know that you never mentioned europe and I did read what you said - you mentioned that january is normally a hard month to buy players and I was referring to the fact that players being cup tied is part of the reason.
What I also read was you saying that berbatov "would be a good signing" - not a decent signing or a better than nobody signing but a good signing and that is what I commented on. For the record I agree with steve o when he says that signing a player like berbatov is not advancement and the club would be better served buying nobody until the summer rather than sign this guy

Can I also ask why it is that you believe that the likes of costa will not come to us ? We are one of the biggest clubs in the world, are supposed to have one of the best managers in the world ( ), have one of the finest stadiums in the world and are playing in the most watched domestic league in world football so what player wouldnt want to come to us ? According to some (not saying that I am one of them) the signing of ozil has signified an end to the penny pinching and that we are now going to behave like a club ambitious to win trophies and are ready to use all the means at our disposal to bring success back to our club so why should we under sell ourselves to potential signings ? :? I am long been outspoken about my belief that we will never progress to the elite club level as long as small time wenker is in charge, but the reality is that there really shouldnt be a huge group of players that are out of reach to us if we had the right manager and board

Costa won't come to us because if he keeps up his current form, we won't be able to compete financially with the clubs who want him. Liverpool apparently tried in the summer and were rebuffed. Spare a thought for Atletico fans - in recent years they've lost (and replaced) Torres, Aguero, Forlan, Falcao and soon possibly Costa.
Whoever scouts strikers for them would be a great signing for us.

I doubt any of us would want Berbatov as a long term option, and I also stated that I would take Berbatov over nothing because I think we are desperate.

But I stated Berbatov's goal record this season, because if we are going to take him on a short term basis, then surely his current form is important as compared to a long term striker signing whose current form could be looked at in context of past form and the possibilities of development over a period of time?

We need a 'Plug in and play" striker to push for the title in our best chance of winning it since 2008.
Berbatov has some of those elements - strong, back to goal ability, fox in the box, experienced.
His goalscoring form for a struggling team and lack of the all important work-rate of Giroud suggests right now Berbatov is average at best.

Spare a thought for Atletico? Last I looked they owed the cash-strapped Spanish treasury over 100m euros and were still throwing around the money that they were receiving for those transfers whilst paying back an extremely modest amount.

As for Berbatov given our unwavering dedication to 4-5-1 does anybody think he would put in 100% playing up front and being asked to chase down everywhere and getting through a truckload of thankless work?
