Diego Costa would be great but would he leave a team joint top of la liga, although Juan Mata on the brink of joining athletico Madrid on loan might help.
at least RVP has lots of experience of winning the 4th placed trophy.
he could be very important to United in the closing months of the season :D

it is a pity that Denilson was sold in the summer, I am sure that he could return to do a job :barscarf:

I really don't get all this "hard to buy" in January - surely if the money is good then everybody is for sale ?

The way I see it is that......wenker always spouts shite about only wanting to bring in top quality so how can you put a price limit on that ? If you see a player that is really top drawer then if you have to spend an extra £10m to buy him then that is what you do if that money is available. Even if we ignore the obvious financial returns through sponsorship, merchandising etc of signing a top player, then surely we can agree that winning a league would have major impact on our financial income ? How can you put a price on what a regular supply of goals can bring to any team ?
Of course if the potential signings that you are looking into signing are more squad players than first 11 players then of course you should set a maximum price that you are willing to pay because of how much impact you are expecting from them. Such a move would be in contravention of the words of our CIC who only talks about signing top quality anyway.

Problem as I see it is that wenker doesn't just believe in socialist pay structure, but he believes in socialist talent pool.....in other words he wants players who are all around the one level of ability. He could go out now and buy a top quality striker that would automatically be our no.1 striker but he would rather signing a player to compete with giroud and around the same level as giroud. Following that strategy allows him to keep giroud motivated and keeps him happy in a happy family/squad instead of feeling disgruntled about being downgraded.

A lot of that goes without saying. However, it's difficult to sign a player owned by a team that quite simply doesn't want/need to sell midway through a season. I honestly think it would take more money than you think to sign a top drawer player this month.

I'm in no way suggesting we should make do with middle of the road shite but at the same time I can see the difficulties. :?

The reality is that it is definitely harder to sign players in January - everyone is desperate for different reasons....whether you're pushing on to secure the league, hampered by injuries, missing out on Europe, staving off relegation....whatever. Of course the selling club also has to find a solution or are they are stumped for another five months. I don't dispute any of that (although difficult does not equal insurmountable)

It just makes me find the lack of investment in key positions in the Summer all the more baffling. United were in transition, City too and Chelsea looked to have one or two players lined up pre-Mourinho. I think in terms of the top English clubs we probably had a free run at some of the top players as was eventually proven with Ozil. We could have signed Higuain and Suarez....I'm convinced of it. If he didn't fancy those players then he had 3 months to focus his attentions elsewhere.

I said back then even post the Ozil euphoria that the failure to sign a striker was extremely negligent and that we would seriously regret it. Our early season form and Giroud's very early season form have been better than hoped, but we are still hugely exposed and it was the summer of inactivity that was even more inexcusable than January

Is Eduardo coming... back?

He hasn't set the world on fire in Ukraine so I can't see it.

Totally agree.

It was the "Elephant in the Marble Halls."

I sent a letter in to ANR about it in early October.
Either spend, or give Afobe and Akpom a chance, and I know which option I would prefer at this early stage in their careers.

So you make it financially impossible for them to say no - sounds simpler than it actually is and I know that but in the vast majority of cases, if you wave enough money under a club nose then they will sell. Despite what you might believe, every club needs money out there and even madrid had to sell ozil to recoup some cash after the monkeyboy deal. Even though I am not convinced by the player, I would much rather pay madrid £25m-£30m (def above his market value) for benzema than pay fulham £2m for a lazy bulgarian c*nt.

I would question the thinking behind those fans who suggest that we wont be able to sign top quality players in a january transfer window.....are you saying that because players wont leave their existing clubs and that clubs wont be willing to sell ? Would you have the same opinion if we had a manager like moaninho in charge of us ? There is a world of difference between "cant buy" and "wont buy" and I think most of us would agree that a chequebook manager like the arrogant portugese cock would find a way to bring the players he wanted into our club and so again that leads back to the CIC so maybe we should stop with the excuses of why we cant buy quality in january

According to 'Arry, he'd sell him for £16m:

Speaking about Remy helping them in the Premier League, he said: “That’s all ifs and buts. You’ve got to get there first, and if someone came and offered £15m or £16m for him, I’d sell him if it was my choice. But it’s not, it’s down to the chairman.”

Not cup tied in either CL and FA Cup
Is on a season-long loan though
Read that he can sign because QPR are a championship club and the rules are not the same as if the parent club were Prem
I'm not sure what difference that would make to the agreement that they have with Newcastle to loan him for the whole season (unless they have a break/recall clause allowing them to recall him under any circumstances which I imagine is unlikely).

Transfer targets: five strikers Arsenal should consider buying in January

Diego Costa

The 25-year-old has a £32m release clause in his contract with Atlético Madrid but the fact that several top clubs may be willing to activate it means that Arsenal may have to fork out considerably more to get him. But he comes with a virtual guarantee of goals, having already struck 19 in 17 matches in La Liga this season. In addition to his technique, mobility and predatory skills, the forward offers huge determination and dynamism that make him an effectve one-man frontline and a firm fans' favourite even if his aggression has been known to spill over into senselessness.

Mario Mandzukic

The Croatian's importance to Bayern Munich will diminish when Robert Lewandowski arrives in the summer, which is when he is most likely to move. However, Arsenal could seek to prise the 27-year-old away this month, attracted by his excellence as a targetman. He is powerful in the air, nimble on the ground and efficient in front of goal.

Dimitar Berbatov

The Bulgarian striker possesses the intelligence and technique to fit in at Arsenal and might be able to summon more dynamism for such a challenge than for a relegation fight with Fulham. The 32-year-old would have the advantage of being eligible for the Champions League and is much cheaper than younger, more coveted alternatives, making him an enticing stopgap solution for the remainder of the season.

Javier Hernández

A fox in the box par excellence, this supreme poacher would thrive on the chances that Arsenal create. He is neither a Theo Walcott nor an Olivier Giroud but is closer to the former in that he is best as a centre-forward when running behind defences rather than playing with his back to them, much more a finisher than a fulcrum. Whether Manchester United would let the 25-year-old go at a time when Robin van Persie is injured and Wayne Rooney continues to suffer with a troublesome groin probably depends on United's ability to recruit in January. And whether they would let him go to Arsenal probably depends on whether they themselves have given up on the Premier League title this season.

Fernando Llorente

Juventus have all but wrapped up the Serie A title already and are out of the Champions League so they could be persuaded to tolerate a disruption to their squad this month and relinquish a striker whom they only signed in the summer. Llorente has scored 5 goals in 11 Serie A matches and, after initially struggling to adapt, he has started to find his feet but is believed to be amenable to a move to England. Tall, strong and tricky, the 28-year-old Spaniard is a formidable targetman.
