Re: January transfer rumours thread

Post by Midz »

Several reports are suggesting Arsenal are trying to land Alvaro Morata on a £1.7 million loan deal until the end of the season.
The Gunners have supposedly re-opened talks with Real over a loan move for the 21-year-old having had their previous approaches rejected and Arsene Wenger himself ruling out a swoop for Morata.
However, should a move for the Real Madrid youngster not be agreed then Arsenal are prepared to spend heavily this month to land a reliable striker instead.
And it is believed Porto’s Jackson Martinez leads a long line of potential candidates.
With this being said, and if of course these reports are to be believed, then why not just splash the cash on a prolific forward rather than attempting to bring in a youngster on loan?

I hope Morata rejects any advances from Arsenal and opts to stay put so that Wenger will be forced to go out and acquire a prolific striker which is what we all want to see come in this January.
What is the point of going for Morata? He’s not exactly a world beater and someone we can rely on to bag the goals. Just because he plays for Real doesn’t mean he’s a special talent. Don’t get me wrong, Morata is a decent enough forward, but to lead the line and rely on him on a weekly basis? No thank you.

Wenger knows what the side needs and what the fans want to see happen this January.
Forget about trying to sign Morata and saving the bucks, just go all out for Martinez and be done with it. Martinez is a beast and loves to score goals – a proven striker. Better yet, the 27-year-old Colombian stated earlier in the week that he would love the opportunity to play for our club in the near future and, in his own words, ‘wouldn’t hesitate’ to join Arsenal. Offer Porto just over £30 million and he’ll more than likely be ours.

Dont be surprised if we try and sign di maria from madrid - wenker is a well known fan of the guy and the player himself has been the subject of fierce criticism from the madrid fans lately which culminated in him making a w*nking gesture towards them when subbed last weekend. Madrid are playing at home in the copa del rey tonight so it will be interesting to see what kind of reception he gets from the fans tonight :rubchin:

Please note that I said that I reckon that we will try to buy him not that we will buy him (no need for the he's not coming retorts

Arsene Wenger considers Theo Walcott replacement at Arsenal

Theo Walcott's six-month injury lay-off has increased the likelihood of Arsenal signing a forward in January, according to manager Arsene Wenger.

"It has accelerated speculation first and of course my desire as well," said Wenger of Walcott's injury.

"Up front we lose Theo as a potential central forward and that's maybe where we have to look outside."

Arsenal have been linked with January moves for Porto's Jackson Martinez and Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata.

Aside from not getting in the necessary calibre of striker we'll inevitably dick around until the last few days of the window because Wenger wants a bargain. The window is open, why wait another month and risk more burnout and dropping points?

Most of the targets are already ruled out or plain unrealistic to begin with.

It will be Loic Remy or your friend and mine, Ciprian Marica. Trying to think of a gag about an incoming Romanian player in January 2014 but nothing's there. :?

Ancelotti has said Morata is staying as he is happy with him and hasn't asked to leave.

Morata is definitely not coming.

The Mirror reckon that Dortmund are in for Gnabry.

http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/ ... ia-3003408

I would not sell him.
In my opinion we have four "Running midfielders":
Walcott, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Gnabry.

Gnabry is the only one fit right now!

The rest of our midfielders are more about passing or tackling*

*Miyaichi is a runner too, but a fringe player.

Wenger - Theo blow may affect transfers

Arsène Wenger admits that Theo Walcott’s injury has “accelerated” his plans in the January transfer window.

The England international has been ruled out for at least six months after he ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

While Wenger says the news could affect his plans, he emphasised that the Tottenham game showed the options already at his disposal.

[Walcott’s injury] has accelerated speculation first and of course my desire as well - but let's not forget about Serge Gnabry who can play in the first team,” he told Arsenal Player.

We have Oxlade-Chamberlain back and we have many other players who can play on the flanks so to find better solutions than what we have internally will not be easy.

Up front we lose Theo as a potential central forward and that's maybe where we have to look outside. But we hopefully have Bendtner back in three weeks. We are there for the opportunities but it's very difficult at the moment.”

Wenger was delighted with Gnabry’s performance against Tottenham and believes the teenager has a bright future ahead of him.

“I integrated him into the first team a long time ago because I see that the qualities are there,” he said.

“He looked to have problems with injuries last season but he was already very influential in the NextGen Series and this season he has grown. He's only 18 years of age and what he shows is encouraging.”
