It certainly has improved on the last 4 seasons of terrible crossing, I'll give you that, mate - but I'd still say it's mostly shit. Either hits the first defender, goes straight into the keepers hands on the goal line or out for a throw on the far side. Gibbs is worse.arseofacrow wrote:think sagna's crossing's been pretty good this season...he's laid some on a plate for giroud, who's by and large squandered them
Guess it only needs to be spot on once or twice a matchDB10GOONER wrote:It certainly has improved on the last 4 seasons of terrible crossing, I'll give you that, mate - but I'd still say it's mostly shit. Defensively he is outstanding and will throw his head in anywhere to win the ballIf we are honest, sagna and mertesacker are the only two proper defenders we have in the squad - gibbs, tv5 and jenskinson view themselves as players who enjoy rampaging up the field and are not, in my opinion at least, defenders in the truest sense of the word

kos is OK too, though both are better at taking legs away
Agreed 100%. Jenko is the best crosser of a ball at the club but he is terrible defensively and I'd rather have Sagna there defending well and shitting his crosses than Jenko crossing well but shitting his defending (unless Jenko learns to defend).augie wrote:DB10GOONER wrote:It certainly has improved on the last 4 seasons of terrible crossing, I'll give you that, mate - but I'd still say it's mostly shit. Gotta disagree there me old mucker, kos is by far and away a better footballer than kolo ever was and if it wasn't for kos's pace mert the submarine would be shown up for his gigantic turning circle and complete lack of pace.augie wrote:Theoperator wrote:Youre forgetting our friend Mathieuaugie wrote:DB10GOONER wrote:It certainly has improved on the last 4 seasons of terrible crossing, I'll give you that, mate - but I'd still say it's mostly shit. I'm not forgetting about kos at all - in my opinion I would compare him to kolo toure in kolo's prime in that his speed allows him time to react to danger rather than anticipate it and the undoubted improvement he has made is down to playing alongside a more natural defender who can organise and boss a defence around![]()
As for the flamoney suggestion the guy is a midfielder and not a defender
I think jenkinson can become a very good right back but needs to have more composure rather than the headless chicken approach, he has the attributes and hopefully will progress.DB10GOONER wrote:Agreed 100%. Mert has done well this season but he needs a very good ch alongside him

I'm not saying that kos isn't a better footballer than kolo but was merely saying that imo their pace gets them both through a lack of defensive positioning at times. I also agree that kos's pace is important to our backline and especially to our BFG but isn't that the way it is meant to be ? I mean partnerships are allow about each bringing something to the table that the other cant and that applies to centre backs, centre midfielders and to strikers - I argued (to huge ridicule I might add) in the summer that our best centre back partnership had to be our BFG alongside either kos or tv5 cos tv5 and kos are too similar to function as a partnership
