Can someone please post a video link to some of these supposedly wonderful Jenkinson crosses because all I can recall whenever I've seen him is shouting at the telly as another shitty daisy cutter gets cleared
I think this post sums up what we've all thought for a while now; SteveO is actually seeing something none of the rest of us can!! Diaby is the next Messi! Giroud is shit! Sagna is a great crosser! Jenko is shit at crossing!

Wenger press conference

on being linked with Berbatov…
You should ask the question, do I rate Berbatov as player? Highly. Have we made any approach to sign Berbatov? No.

on whether he will sign Berbatov…
I don't think so because we have Bendtner who is coming back, we have Yaya Sanogo who is making very good progress in training. Of course we have lost Theo Walcott and that for us was a big blow but hopefully we can compensate. We have not made any approach.

on Mertesacker being curious about the transfer window…
I am curious as well, of course I'm curious, it's my nature. But the transfer period lasts until the 31st of January. Are we close to signing anybody? At the moment I would say no.
Quite incredible really Bendner and Sanogo if 11 and 12th men on the pitch wouldnt equate to Berbatoss I remember when he moved from Manure to The Scum Wenker said on MOTD that he didnt know he was for sale :banghead: :banghead:

So

Its official

No one is coming

I say just spend 35m on Costa. I would hate it if we had a repeat of 07/08.

Never going to happen, 4th is the magic position in the league for Wenger, and we are on course for that, so don't expect the club to overly spend.

Anyone who hasn't worked 30 years in football would also say the same thing.

Sagna's crossing has improved but not to anywhere near what it should be. He has put in a few fantastic crosses (notably the two at Old Trafford!) but from memory the vast majority of them are when there's nobody to aim for and he whips the ball into a great area. Still very good crosses but tend to be the kind that aren't as dangerous as they look. When he is faced with a box full of players the ball still fails to clear the first man with alarming regularity. You can see when he comes up against a defender he's lost all confidence and his first instinct is to check back, can't remember the last time he tried to skin a defender and looked like he genuinely believed he could.

That said, he does offer something going forward and is far more intelligent than the vast majority of PL full-backs in terms of which runs to make and which balls to play. Moreover, I think people have been completely swept up the last few years by the wankathon over shit full-backs like Kyle Walker just because they 'bomb forward' - even though he's shit defensively and also has no end product. Aside from being caught a bit slow tracking back a few times (e.g. Dortmund's winner) Sagna is extremely solid defensively and I really like the way he plays. And that's what I want my full-backs to do - defend. Anything he can offer going forward is a bonus but we have a plethora of creative attacking players in our squad and we finally look like having redressed the carte blanche giving to full-backs to bomb forward without a second thought which imo has been a major defensive flaw in past years.

He's not quite as athletic as he was (not helped by two leg breaks) and despite adjusting to it well with a sensible approach to his game and seemingly knowing his limitations I'm not sure whether he'll be a viable first choice in 2015/16. But barring injury he'll almost definitely be worthy of a place in the squad and more importantly not worth taking the risk for the sake of a year's wages. We all know we are not going to line up next August with a better RB than him and this certainly won't be the case if we promote Jenkinson who hasn't proved he's even good enough to be a PL player never mind a starter at Arsenal.

On another note although I've got no worries about him pissing off for money it's concerning that Mertesacker's contract has been allowed to run down. Do we not learn lessons? The guy seems to love playing for us and I don't for a minute at this stage think he'll piss off but why take the risk? He's a key player and seems to be a key figure at the club.

Usually as footie fans we watch closely at events regarding our own clubs but only pay passing interest in events elsewhere but from reading different reports in recent days it appears that cortese will be a huge loss for Southampton and I am wondering if he should be the type of guy that should be working for us :rubchin: Reports seem to suggest that he has been outstanding in his efforts in the transfer markets both in identifying targets and then persuading them to join southampton 8) We have all frequently lamented the loss of DD in that key area for the club and to most of us it appears that our performance when it comes to identifying and securing players is little short of woeful for a club of our size and it (transfer negotiating) is absolutely an area that wenker should not be involved in so a specialist in that dept would, for me at least, be a big step in the right direction
