Lifelong Coventry fan facing ban.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Lifelong Coventry fan facing ban.

Post by olgitgooner »

I reckon this old boy deserves a bit of support from fans of all football clubs.....

http://www.gopetition.com/petitions/ala ... tball.html

Please sign the petition if you agree with me. It might just sway a magistrate from banning the guy from his beloved football. It takes two minutes.

Cheers.

The problem I see is that the fan walked on the pitch, when it clearly says on a red sign behind the sponsor boards "It is a criminal offence to enter the field of play"
I get that he had no intent to harm, but you cannot just walk on the pitch whenever you feel like it. I get that a lifelong ban may be a bit too much though.

Agreed. Punishment might seem harsh but he should certainly have appreciated the likely consequences when he decided to meander out onto the pitch.

I think the point of the petition is to try to reduce the punishment to a year ban or something.

Clearly the guy was trying to make a point. Possibly after one lager too many. We've all done stupid things in our time.

agree with others in that he should not have walked onto the pitch.

Their protest up to that point was applauded by most and was clearly well thought out and organised. Once he came on (which incidentally was mid one of our attacks and the whistle casued initial confusion among fans) it ruined their otherwise admirable protest in my mind, and clearly the minds of others breaking out into a rounsing chorus of "you fat bast''d"

were it in a game where we were less comfortable at the time, the effect he had could have been so much more damning to us that it happened to be. He shouldn't have done it but one might empathise with his motives (albeit misguided i think on this one) and a life time ban does seem harsh given he was certainly not a thug cntu

Should ban all our good for nothing stewards who all stood around like prize pricks while he strolled about the pitch doing whatever the fuck he liked.

Does he do charity work? I feel this will be relevant information before I decide I wont do it.

It's a very harsh decision indeed. Let's hope the ban is reduced to something shorter than the rest of his life :-P

Two things.

Firstly the man won't get lifetime ban I will be more lie three years.

Secondly, stewards are told NOT to enter field of play if a fan encroaches on to the field. This is to prevent the keystone cop element. So to call stewards what Dan has is a tad OTT as they are only following club policy

The making of walking on the pitch a criminal offence which was done under the Football Offences act was and is insane and clearly showed that the authorities didn't learn from the Hillsborough disaster .

This person has been criminalised for being a minor nuisance ,he should have been lobbed out given a caution and it should end there .

To send him to Coventry so to speak for life is not only harsh it's ludicrous seeing cov don't have many fans in the first place !
