As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No idea why I let them get to me.
There's also the original "Who would we buy then? Go on" followed by reasons why we didn't get/couldn't possibly get the player
Of course it is the boards fault cos wenker showed with the purchase of ozil that he is willing to spend money
And of course if you are not happy with wenker then who could we get to replace him ?
Finally I like the comments that tell us how happy we should be that we have a lovely stadium and play nice football - I know that was the first thing I looked for when I become a footie fan almost 40 years ago
And even that's false. We haven't played what I would class as "nice football" (quick, high tempo passing and interplay WITH A PURPOSE, ie to attack to opposition's goal) since, let's see now, oh yes 2004
I'm sorry that's one of the silliest things I've read on here in a while. You don't think we attack with a purpose? wtf
I agree with you but its actually a rather common complaint at the Emirates. I remember in particular one of our limp dick 4th place seasons we were top scorers in the league but also the worst defense and yet if you believed the people in the stadium then our biggest problem was 'tippy tappy football'. It's the same people who shout "SHOOT" when a player picks the ball up 40 yards from goal.
It is not as simple as just "play like the invincibles did". The invincibles had a noticeable physical advantage over most teams in the league. The rest of the league has caught up now, that advantage is gone. Look at Southampton, incredibly fit and well drilled side who can press high up the pitch for 90 minutes. Yes we were shit in that first half but watch it back and see how much time and space any Arsenal player had when they picked up the ball. This was a side promoted 2 years ago..
What can't be denied is that we don't work goalkeepers as often as we used to. Many was the time when we'd leave the ground saying what a great game the opposition keeper had. Yet for the past few seasons it has appeared - to this set of eyes at least - that we haven't worked the goalie nearly as much, although conversely the figures seem to suggest that we have probably got a better 'goals to attempts' ratio.
LDB you are of course correct when you say that we no longer have the physical advantage over opposition teams but shouldn't that be an even bigger reason for us to play with more tempo ? The reality is that we are a team with too many players happy to add to their passing stats every week as they move slowly from side to side It is a shocking indictment of our play that we missing a 33 year old who has spent most of the past 3 seasons injured, more than we miss any other player - rosicky brings a tempo and drive to our game that nobody else does and at a time that we should be phasing him out, he appears to be almost irreplaceable
With a team as small and lightweight as we are, it needs to use the ball faster before the more physical opposition players get close and start brushing our players off the ball. Of course if we had 2 strikers up front it might allow us to attack with more penetration and it would ease our slow methodical play but it wouldn't go anywhere near stopping it

We don't always play at a good enough tempo, I agree. But then no team can maintain maximum tempo for 90 minutes of every game, even Barcelona when they were at their most drugged up had downs. The point I'm making is that with so many teams that are fit and well drilled it has become harder to find the tempo that blows these teams off the park like it used to. In the current league only Man City manage it, at home at least.

I've said it before and I will say it again, if any of you fcukers know of a "gun for hire"/assassin that would be prepared to remove the c*nting manager from OUR CLUB then I will gladly finance the project (if you can try and get a cheap assassin that would be great cos finances are a bit tight at the mo

Trust you type that in "jest" old chap, if us mods can trace IP addresses and street names (though not house numbers or surnames ) from your user page then so can old bill!
If he YET AGAIN fails to buy the desperately need striker then surely everybody must see that he really must go, as there are no excuses about not having the money, we are so short up top.

I think the part you missed out of the quote - but which I highlighted - signifies clearly that it was. Not sure even our poice force could come to the conclusion that augie is a modern day mafia 'Godfather' type!! He can't do the accent, for a start!!
