Still not the slightest shred of evidence to suggest that's there more than only one....

Not long before it's absolutely official

Fairly sure Per came from werder bremen for 8m
Hleb also came from Stuttgart but apart from that the players you mentioned made them a fortune :barscarf:
Yeah, but in fairness Wolfsburg did get £42m when they sold us Ozil and £80m when we signed Lehmann from them. And of course, they made a small fortune when they took over catering at the Grove. Ain't that right, clockender :D
Which bit of ' I sit corrected then ' did you not get ?

Duh.

Back to Wenger.................watched the City/Chelsea game last night. Let me be clear,I despise the brat Mourinho and that classless club of his. But I have to say he ''managed'' it brilliantly last night. Got his team to go face to face with City and they clearly couldn't handle it. Whatever we think externally, his players clearly get him and his tactics were perfect.....called ''coaching?'' Brings me to my main point....Hazard. Wenger loves his tippy tappy, Hazard had the lot....skill of Cazorla/Ozil but the additional drive, work rate and physicality that I'd dream of at Arsenal.Haven't seen a better midfield performance for ages. Weren't we supposed to be in for him once ?

We was in for hazard or so the papers said, but it's the same old story we can't pay what chels and city can. If we win the league this year, I think it would be the best achievement ever.

Yes, we were. But our glorious manager, in his infinite wisdom and an enviable knack for spotting gems, went to Lille and came back with the sensational forehead instead.

For me the Dortmund away game was one of our best games over the last few years. Wasn't a barnstorming performance but we went to a better team and altered our approach and mentality. We didn't go there full of inhibition and we also didn't set up like a Bangkok whore begging to get fucked.

Shows what we can do with some variation in how we set up based on the opposition. We didn't do anything radical or unfamiliar, we just brought everything together well. We pressed hard, we didn't give them an inch, we kept our shape, we were very resourceful with possession (starting from the excellent composure and distribution of Arteta) and we waited until they started flagging to change up a gear and start being more expansive. It was absolutely clinical and even though we didn't pose any threat first half we went to a better team than us in a difficult environment and executed our game plan perfectly.

Made it all the more disappointing and confusing when we reverted to type and were incredibly inhibitious and insipid against United and then set up like a Bangkok whore begging to get fucked at Citeh.

Am I remembering that Dortmund game with more fondness than it merits? Or is Wenger too proud to adapt our usual approach against domestic rivals?

I admit to be torn on this issue. On the one hand it's hard to argue with leading the league on the other hand it's hard to imagine Chelsea and City not hitting the line a lot harder than us. On yet another hand it was the back end of last season when we were in our best form so maybe there's reason for optimism.
IF we are succesful than I will be both pleasantly surprised and give Wenger his due credit because - to be fair - he will have done it without spending ridiculous amounts (and far from it).

IF however, as i suspect, we are more likely to finish 3rd then his lack of investment - and no one expects him to match City and Chelsea - but his total lack of strengthening the depth and quality of the squad will be the final indictment.

I started this season with a view that we were finally in a position to invest and expected same THEN we didnt and i was quite dark THEN we got Ozil and hit the top - only time will tell but if someone said come Feb we will be top of the league and alive in the FA Cup and UCL then I would have been stoked.

In some ways I actually think Wenger should be judged, not on what he hasn't spent, but a little more on what he has and in recent years he has been extremely hit and miss.
Well that kept typing itself...

Come the end of the Feb mate, more than likely you'll be unstoked.
