Re: Palace
The Palace stuff is strange - they have literally nicked the playbook of most german teams and one I go to on a semi-regular basis. Thing is, it's sort of natural for these guys to do it cos, well, they're German and it's suits their personality and the way they support their team.

Re: Palace
Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to one-up anybody here. I'm just a bit pissed off that a club of our size struggles to generate a good atmosphere thanks to ridiculous ticket fee's, tourists and a lack of consideration of the fans by the club. Pretty much everyone would like a better atmosphere at home games up and down the country.Chippy wrote:I think young Ryan pwned you there SteveO.![]()
But then when fans of a club do make an effort to bring a bit of colour and noise to the game (such as Palace) some people take the piss out of them just because it isn't how they would do it.

I don't know the ages of others on this forum, but I would bet that some of you have been to games when there was actually a proper atmosphere week-in week-out in England before the so-called "safety laws" and money came into the game, which have made attending many games a quiet affair, which is mostly all I have experienced.
I am glad that there is a club in England that has fans willing to show that a good atmosphere can be made home and away. Who cares how they make their atmosphere, even if it is this so-called "happy-clappy shite", I bet they still had a better time than some of the silent, miserable bastards that fill our ground (barely) on a weekly basis.

TBH I remember times when Highbury really WAS like a library. But also times when the old girl was rocking. As an "older"Ryanswannell wrote:Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to one-up anybody here. For me the atmos has to be natural and a lot of that is determined by the situation. Are we playing a hated enemy like the vermin, are we taking the piss, or is it a vital "big" game... these things obviously tend to generate atmosphere. But TBH I actually would rather sit there surrounded by silence than have that false manufactured European happy clappy shite forced on me.

Am I just a grumpy old keeunt?

Yes. Yes, I am. Thank you.

Re: Palace
I was at the Tottenham game in the cup and the atmosephere was fucking brilliant. A number of things contributed to that (a) it was THEM (b) the team played fantastically well (c) it was exciting cup football against a rival - not some pedestrian league game against a bunch of no-hopers or a dead rubber bore-a-thon Chumpions League encounter.
One thing that didn't contribute to it, was orchestrated singing and drumming, led by some bare chested buffoon
People need to realise that for Palace its a big day out....for us its a routine league game. I've watched my non-league team play away in the FA Cup occasionally and its the same thing there.......the away team underdog is excited and the home team could barely give a shite.
The atmosphere against Bayern will be great if the team plays well. Same when we play United. Its always been this way and always will be.
Why can't people just see it as it is. Big team (preferably a hated rival), imporant game, team plays well = great atmosphere. Shitty little team, game all over as soon as you score first, tippy tappy first half = shit atmosphere. If you try and change the latter by having some goon shouting through a megaphone or banging a drum it will look even more sad than people not doing anything in my opinion

Although to be fair, people still shout out the surname even though he doesn't pause anymoreDB10GOONER wrote:TBH I remember times when Highbury really WAS like a library. I used to actually cringe with embarrassment when that MC dickhead at the Conglomerates would yell out "Cesc!" to be answered by "Fabregas!" from the crowd. Simply appalling.

I hate drums and/or bands at football matches.
I hate the fat virgin with his shirt off down the front with the loudhailer at Italian/Turkish footy games.
I hate constant droning singing that is not related to what's happening on the pitch at all.

I agree with you though. When teams like Marseille/German clubs come to the bowl their fans make good noise which is impressive for about 5 minutes until you realise it remains exactly the same regardless of what's happening on the pitch. After 5 minutes your ear tunes out to it completely, at least it does to me and I imagine it's the same for the players.
At least we don't play pigbag every time we score
