How to solve the Ozil problem?

Post by DERRY GOONER »

starting to remind me of arshavin, bags of talent, but goes missing for ages, and seems so disintrested.. hes meant be be our star player, but the past few months hes been a passenger.. i think a few games coming of the bench, if wenger has the balls to put him there, mite kick start him again, debate....

Ozil had a bad game yesterday, but on the whole I'd say hes been ok.
I think next season we will see a different Ozil.

You've got to give any player time to settle in, even the best ones.
Hazards just starting to show what a good player he is.

On this I agree. I have no agenda with Ozil either way, just feel that give him this season and next he'll start scoring goals and be highly influential.

Ozil has been disappointing. Particularly, he looks disinterested and I don't think any of us can see exactly what his position should be.
I'm sure he'll improve next season, but, as a player whose main talent is creating chances for others he needs his teammates to show much better and quicker movement, and while I think Giroud's done a decent job, he won't ever be sprinting onto Mesut's throughballs.
Not sure whether dropping him would make or break him, but Rosicky and Santi in the middle are better bets at the moment.

Is Ozil a 42 million pound Arshavin?

Post by George71 »

I don't think he would have come to Arsenal if Real had not had to sell him, the fans were on Arsene's back for a big
name player, Real forced him to come here.

He walks around more and more, he has to be told by the BFG to go to away fans and applaud them.

We have seen glimpses of how good he is, and Mesut is a world class player, (but is he sulking at being for forced out of a team with top world class players?), little Serge is playing better than Ozil.

And we have had top world class players here, now we want more?

he seems to have a complacent attitude and never actually blames himself, plus he takes much too long on the ball and doesn't work hard enough to get it back. The point being of course he can improve in the future but right now he needs to be dropped, if it was anyone else we'd be going mental over it

I too have no agenda either way and despite being really disappointed with his performances, I still am delighted that we signed him and feel that it could have been a pivotal move had we followed up his signing with recruiting more quality last summer but of course that chance has been lost

When you look at ozil you have to wonder what is wrong -

1. Is it just first season in a new country syndrome ? Maybe and we have all seen it before but I cant get away from the feeling that he doesn't want to be here. His reaction at the end of the citeeh game was very very poor and rightly drew a strong reaction from BFG but his general demeanour suggests an unhappy guy and whether that is for football or personal reasons I don't know. We have to acknowledge that most players would view any move from real Madrid as a step down :(

2. Is it for tactical reasons ? Without turning this into an anti wenker discussion, you have to think that the system doesn't suit him - he is a wonderfully creative player when used in a free floating role but the problem is that ozil, cazorla and rosicky are all the same type of players and are all looking to make the same runs and use the same space and that in itself will curb his effectiveness. Is he being picked to play on the wing or in the centre ? Only an absolute braindead gobshite could play ozil, cazorla, ramsey, bendtner or diaby on the wing and expect it to work cos
THEY ARE NOT WINGERS

3. I feel that the lack of a pacy mobile quality centre forward is also having a negative pass on both ozil and cazorla - when you have quality players who can pass a ball through the eye of a needle, you need players that can run onto those fine through balls and with the greatest respect to giroud, he is not that player.

4. Is he destined to be a player that was always drift in and out of games ? I used to watch him getting subbed every single game at Madrid and I thought that the portugese moaning cock was treating him shabbily but now I wonder if there are fitness/stamina/concentration issues that were driving those substitutions :rubchin:

Solutions

1. For me, if we are absolutely committed to playing without proper wingers then we should change to a 4-3-1-2 system with ozil playing off a front two. It still isn't my preferred option but we should be changing the system to suit the players we have and build around our best players and pozil and santi are those players

Going forward I seriously think we need a revamp of not just our formation but also of the type of players we have - we simply do not have a ball winner in midfield and that has been the case for a few years now. As I have said a few times, Fernando (porto) looks like the type of player we need but to date we have opted for a more technical type of player when that key position should always be filled with a ball winner. In my opinion ozil and cazorla need a strong physical type of player who will win the ball and then give it to them to do their magic

For me ozil has 12 months to validate his signing - if he plays first few months of next season like he has done to date, then we need to accept that he isn't going to work out and move on. However right now I would be very hesitant of picking out ozil above other players and laying the blame at his feet - yes he needs to improve his performances and attitude but I am in favour of giving him that time to do so

I just think Ozil has not been used well by Wenger

he plays him every game. why did he play v Coventry for example?

at Real Madrid they rotated him and he was more effective.

When Ozil was in his best form when he first joined us Cazorla was injured. When Cazorla got fit Ozil's form dipped.I dont think they can play together they are too similar. Our best midfield is Rambo Jack Flamini and Ozil.

To get the best out of Ozil you need a quality striker with pace and awareness an Henry Suarez Aguero type.,Giroud has neither of these and to play Ozil in the number 10 role behind the striker.Ozils assist record at Madrid proves he is quality but he was surrounded by quality there. We will never see the best of Ozil till he is played in his best position and we sign a world class striker but not in the same team as Cazorla

All to often he has the ball in midfield, tries to go around a player, collapses to the ground and sits there while the opposition go at us. That stuff fucking infuriates me :banghead:

1.) Personal troubles/settling in?

Unless anyone here knows him, we can only speculate that he might not have settled in on a personal level and it is affecting him on the pitch?

2.) Adaption to the league?

I suspect he will need to add a bit of body strength this summer, but this should not be a huge factor in his form.

3.) Tactics

No doubt mobile runners suit his game.
Henry Norris you say Ozil takes too long on the ball, but he moves the ball on faster than any Arsenal player I have seen before.
This fault in my mind is because the others are not making the right runs for him rather than any technical deficiency of Ozil's.

4.) Position

Unlike you Augie, I think we can play Ozil wide midfield.
Either left or right.
Our players swap around during the game anyway.
He has played very well for Germany and Madrid in wide positions, though not stuck to the touchline, he has license to cut inside a la Pires.
I think Cazorla and Rosicky are our best number 10's.

With current injuries yesterday I actually would have started Cazorla central, Ozil and Gnabry to the sides.

I would have started The Ox and Wilshere deep though, Arteta and Rosicky (coming back from injury) on the bench.
