Re: The Yaya Sanogo Progress Thread
I think the criticism here is aimed at Wenger not Yaya.
Maybe the kid will make it, maybe he won't - we did find a gem in Gnabry it seems so far.
I have no problem with 2 year contracts offered to any Lower league prospect - with coaching, some might make it - remember Andy cole ? And Palace taking on Wrighty...gems in the rough do turn up from time to time.
The issue is that we should have been spending our time on a GK, DM, CB, RB and striker - but we didn't . Again.
I do wish we'd look at our own leagues too - just once.

Just once? - I'll give you 5 current players without thinking... Arteta (Everton), Ramsey (Cardiff), Theo (Southampton), Jenkinson (Charlton) and Chamberlain (Southampton) were all signed from our own leagues mate.clockender1 wrote: I do wish we'd look at our own leagues too - just once.

Re: The Yaya Sanogo Progress Thread
Yaya has a 4 year contract at 30 k a week so there's plenty of time for him to get fit however he has played now 14 games in 3 seasons !

I have a problem with a 2 year contract being handed out to a perma injured crock - maybe if he had proven his quality before his injuries started then you could make a defence for signing him (maybe), but to sign an unproven always injured kid on a 2 year deal is lunacy and if the 30k per week figure is anywhere near being accurate then somebody should lose their job for it.
The more I look at wenker the more I come to the viewpoint that he is not an Arsenal manager but is a FRENCH Arsenal manager - I stated several times in january that buying a striker might have been on his agenda but buying one better than giroud certainly wasnt. You know that to buy a keeper better than chesney then you are probably talking top quality but there are several levels between giroud and top quality so how hard could it be to buy a better striker to take us forward ? The reason why I make this point is because le cocks loyalty is and always has been to sign french or african players first and foremost and sanogo fits that profile - how can any club chasing trophies, sign this kid as back up to giroud ? Remember when we signed him, the worlds best danish striker was on his way out the door so sanogo was in effect bought to be 2nd choice behind giroud and that is insane

If I was boss, I would have looked at Afobe and Akpom and thought, why do we need Sanogo?augie wrote:to sign an unproven always injured kid on a 2 year deal is lunacy and if the 30k per week figure is anywhere near being accurate then somebody should lose their job for it.
But if the club scouts saw something in him, then OK, take a gamble, I have no problem with the odd gamble in football..sometimes it does not work...Mendez-Giminez, Wreh, Bischoff etc. but sometimes it does...Anelka made us a fortune, and Kolo Toure cost us next to nothing in transfer fees.
So sign Sanogo on a two year deal, but put him on £1,000 per week.
He can live comfortably in London on that as a single man.
Have first option on two more years, that costs us nothing and puts us in the driving seat if he does well.
If he does well after one year then any agent worth his salt would re-negotiate and set up a long term deal anyway.

So... let me see if I can get my head around this...QuartzGooner wrote:If I was boss, I would have looked at Afobe and Akpom and thought, why do we need Sanogo?augie wrote:to sign an unproven always injured kid on a 2 year deal is lunacy and if the 30k per week figure is anywhere near being accurate then somebody should lose their job for it.

You are saying DON'T sign an average or poor player for £10million or £12million on a 5 year deal with starting wages of £20K a week, then DON'T extend that contract after 2 or 3 years of inept displays and add on an unearned and undeserved pay rise to £50K a week and then DON'T sell him on to Palace for a fraction of what we paid or DON'T lend him out to a Brazilian club side and continue to pay half or more of his inflated wages because even Palace aren't stupid enough to take in all of our shite?

Sounds mad... but could be worth a try, Quartz. Have you ever considered a career in football management?

Unfortunately we are far too speculative when it comes to strikers. Clinging onto the likes of Vela and Sanchez Watt for far too long when it had become obvious they weren't going to cut it because Wenger has gambled that one of our exciting prospects is going to make it.
You just cannot rely on your academy to produce players capable of playing at the top level. Obviously any top players that do come through, brilliant, but you can't afford to bank on it.

Does no one read ????????????,he's on 30 k a week and its a four year deal !
