As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
You need to play to get the opportunity to be a flop
He did play and was rubbish.
When did he get this playing time that justifies that.....20mins in a foreign league after not playing much in last 2seasons. I take it you watched all his games at the u20s world cup.... Or is it the usual knee jerk bandwagon jumping that seems to be a contagious infection around here.

No. He has shown he is class. But now for whatever reason he has slumped in form. He might be pissed off playing with players that don't fully understand his vision, he might be homesick, he might be carrying a niggle-type knock, he might be tired as the PL is far more physically demanding than the Spanish one, or he might just be having a coincidental dip in form. Would you have written Pires off after his first half season? or Henry? Neither set the PL alight but (like Ozil) you could see they had real quality.
I firmly believe if we signed 2 or 3 world class players (striker and midfielder at least) we'd see a huge improvement from Ozil sooner rather than later. Remember how much more effective DB10 was after we added Overmars, Petit, Vieira and Henry? Great players need to play with other great players that are on the same level intellectually (football-wise ).
The problem with putting him in a flop category is only two players have more assists than he does and they play almost as many games as he does.
He has improved in the last 2 games and to be fair he started well tody and then plummeted afer the penalty.
I think he is a confidence player and works better when you have willing runners beyond him. I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt but just a shame he cost as much as he did or he would have been "rested" more instead of Santi always getting the "hook" before him.
We can rightly expect more from him than we've been getting recently but not a "flop". Might sound like it's making excuses but I'm not going to write him off at his age at this stage.
There are things to work on for him and for the manager to get more out of him.
Way too early to label him as a flop but he does need to get his head in the game and realise that different characteristics are required to be a success in England so he either adapts or leave at end of season
