As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Don't forget that in eight years, we were unable to even win the league cup, that is how much of a failure Wenger is. Even after eight years of failure, and with a real chance of winning the league title, Wenger still didn't buy the required players, we needed in January, because he knows the virtual trophy, is all but guaranteed. Also, even though Mourinho is a prick, he is making these comments before Arsenal even face Chelsea next month, because he knows, we have no chance of beating Chelsea.
Fucking hell even Rafa Benitez is sticking the knife in
It was rude but correct. Mourinho likes his image as a quirky genius, and lets face it half of the stuff he says is of Cantona quality. But he does know his football and he was just responding to Wengers barb.
I'd rather have the Mourinhos of this world than pulis, fat Sam, etc. love him or hate him I really don't think Mourinho cares at all - he's still very young - younger than when Wenger joined The Arsenal I think ?
Personally I think Mourinho was right to count the chavs out - city are a better side and SHOULD win it.
We are only in the race at all cos city, chavs and united are rebuilding - even Liverpool have only had Rodgers in charge for 18 months, so for Wenger to get involved in mind games about the title at all is ludicrous.
The senile old fool got a spanking and now we move on. This will resurface when we go to the Bridge if we are still in the top three though, otherwise the issue is over IMHO.
I don't give a fuck whether what he said is right or not, he shouldn't be saying it. Only us fans are allowed to criticize him. Fuck off Maureen you insecure little *word censored*.

This. No manager should be criticising another manager in public whether it's Mourinho, Wenger or Chris Wilder (manager of rock bottom of league 2 Northampton, and yes I did have to look that up ) Anyway, it's disrespectful and unprofessional and shouldn't be happening, just to boost one's ego and give the press something to write about

But no-one listens when we make justifiable cticisms - we are seen as plastic, disloyal or picking on 'slip ups'
For those of us that should be herd he's done us a favour. People are now questioning our complacency, lack of ambition while we've had very full pockets.
Wenger just got called out on his easy ride - and notice no response from Wenger today. He can't say eff all until
Tomorrow night - when if this motivates him to do something, and we win - he can point out that we're still in the cup.
Either way, he's put a boot up Wengers bum and done us a favour.

So the manager who has consistently won trophys for 10 years in a row has the audacity to respond to the manager who hasn't won a trophy for nine consecutive years when he talks about "failure"........
At least someone has the decency to speak up against this arrogant twat.
To be honest I think everybody knows that's the case. Mourinho has always been a twattish cocktail of arrogant, disingenuous, disrespectful and a bully. Since he's come back he's been like a little boy jumping up and down shouting "LOOK AT ME LOOK AT ME" because people weren't as fussed on him and even now you don't hear people talking about him in the same wonderful terms. Given the hype around his return I don't think I've heard any of the sycophantic press wankers croon about how wonderful it is to have such a character back in the English game, which was the rhetoric whilst he was abroad.
Everybody with half a brain can see right through Mourinho's rubbish and silly games, but the best way to get people clicking on links and buying papers is just by ignoring that and dutifully printing whatever he says without any real thought/anaylsis, knowing that most people have a strong view about him/his comments one way or another. Lazy journalism at its best.

I will still argue that the c*nt is, in the main, a bullshitter - he picks out the managers and players that he knows that he can unsettle and then he goes out of his way to talk them out of the game. Every single time that he has faced a manager that is strong enough to stand up to him, moaninho loses out. People talk about his successes like he is some sort of amazing jesus Christ superstar manager but the reality is that he has been heavily financed in every single club that he has worked in - I know that some point to his champs league win with porto but Greece won the euro's a few years ago and even di matteo won a champs league with the chavs so freak things like that can happen.
More than any other time I think moaninho was exposed in his time at Madrid - he spent over £150m in just 3 seasons there winning 1 league and 1 copa del rey and he tried everything to displace barca including trying to physically kick them out of games but pep had his number and pissed all over him and he knew it. He returned to England this season with his tail between his legs and was very sheepish early in the season and it is only recently, when he realised that they can win the league, that he has started his verbal diatribe again. During his previous stint 4 year with the chavs, moaninho spent over £225m so is 2 league titles an acceptable return for that spend ? He knew that he waqs never going to talk old whiskey nose out of the games regardless of how much money he spent and that brings me back to my original point........the c*nt is mainly a bullshitter that takes advantage of weak managers but is a pussycat when he meets a stronger manager.
All that said, he has wenkers number ever since he first joined the chavs and the whole world knows it. A supposedly intelligent man (wenker) should know that you only talk the talk when you are in a position of strength but of course he has always tried to lecture from his pulpit whilst his empire is burning to the ground around him
I'll preface what I'm about to say by making clear I have always been a fan of Mourinho's managerial ability - if not always his behaviour. However, seeing Mourinho's reaction in last evening's press conference it appears that perhaps Arsene has managed to get under his skin a bit more than the 'Special One' and others - including me - initially thought!!
Indeed, thinking back to what Wenger actually said, I could well imagine Mourinho answering the question in exactly the same manner had he been asked why other manager's were reluctant to admit their team was in with a title chance when they so obviously were. Has his almost petulant and child-like response shown that Jose has been rattled?

I'm not sure - I think Mourinho is able to quite easily detach himself from his press persona. That's not to say that he isn't genuinely irritated by things going against him or being criticised. But he can spout all the rubbish under the sun and then when it comes down to game time he is just 100% focused on winning the match and picks the best way to do it. I think he throws these media grenades and then chucks in the odd curveball (like when he is very honest and dignified after a campaign of mind-games like yesterday, or his United love-in after Chavs beat them last month), and just steps back to see the reaction. I don't think these things really bother him.
Ferguson could do it too to a lesser extent. Although his outbursts weren't always as measured as Mourinho's and he had a little bit of the 'piss-soaked, rabid lunatic alcoholic' look about him when he was foaming at the mouth, you always got the sense that with Ferguson the only thing that really mattered was winning the game and finishing top of the pile. If he could deflect from his players and put the pressure on somebody else then great, but he won his titles in the dressing room and on the pitch, not in the media.
I think with Wenger it really does get under his skin. I think Mourinho's constant rich-boy gloating makes Wenger more and more determined to become his antithesis - to spend very modestly, to play attractive attacking football, to be a bastion of respectfulness. I don't doubt the stadium had an effect on spending but equally I don't think it's a coincidence that we spent considerable amounts in relative terms in 1997, 2001 and 2003, but then post-Mourinho Wenger's rhetoric about spending silly money was backed up by unprecedented frugality, and his complaining about Mourinho's negative tactics saw us completely ditch defending from about 2008 until 2012.
I know Wengers petulant and egotistical but surely he wouldnt bring that so far that he would base his spending on what Mourinho and Chelsea do?
I do think that he wants to be remembered as a successfull manager who spent very little in the face of the free spending Russian and Arab owners and be lauded as a genius. But not to choose to go the complete opposite of them to prove a point.? I had never thought of it that way.
I just reckon he had his vision of buying cheap, young prospects and bring them on, let them "express themselves" and we'd be successful without spending big money. On the face of it and on paper it sounds wonderful. The accountancy side of Wenger took over from the football side. But in reality his project failed miserably and his ego would not let him admit it to himself and he persevered with it for too long. So long that it was to the detriment of the club and we find ourselves where we are today. Trophyless for 8 years.
As for the spat with Mourinho - he set himself up for it and Mourinho took advantage and batted Wenger out of the park.
armchair it's hard for me to hear his ever-increasing rhetoric since Abramovich came on the scene about money in football etc etc etc and - when you contrast it with the reasonable but not insignificant summer outlays that preceded each of our PL titles - not draw the conclusion that his own spending habits have been affected by the likes of Chavs and Citeh.
