This is fixture I've attended the most due to travelling down with our mackem friend on this forum
Having been to several games previously, the last season at Highbury was first arsenal game I'd been to that didn't finish 1-1 or 1-0- we won 3-1 so was good to see more goals for a change!
can't say there's been many stand out moments over the years though!
1990/91 1-1, nial Quinn scored. I remember taking a mate from school who was a mackem fan together with some other old school mates. We stood in the north bank middle and it was a dull game livened up by the " we've lost our Tony Adams" song.
There are one or two that spring to mind, Tony Adams debut in ummm 83 I think, believe we lost 3-2.
One of the most bizarre games I ever went to was also against Sunderland, at Highbury in I think maybe 95 or 96, they had two players sent off in the first half, one might have been that pube head Paul Stewart, and Peter Reid was also sent off from the bench.
After half time they adopted a tactic of keeping all of their remianing nine men behind the ball, and whenever they did get the ball, humping it as far away as possible to the opposite corner of the pitch. It did work for a while, lots of huffing and puffing, but in the end I think Hartson scored and we ended up winning 2-0.
Paul Dankin was the ref, afterwards Reid made some quip about Ted Dankin being a better choice for ref.
Also remember Suker scoring an absolute beauty against them, half volley into the top corner across the keeper right in front of me in the Clock End.
one of the first Arsenal matches I attended was v Sunderland in the mid 80s.
I seem to remember it finished a fairly exciting 3-2 to Arsenal with 2 Charlie Nicholas goals.
my memory of the game was seeing Nicholas flying down the wing from my seat in the West Stand.
He was always my favourite player after that, and then of course he capped his Arsenal career by scoring the winning 2 goals in the 1987 League Cup final.
