He's a very tidy player, but I fail to see how he is muc superior to say Cazorla, who offers passing, goal threat and movement and who we paid 15 million for. At 42million Ozil could turn into, relatively speaking, one of the greatest flops of all time. He's an excellent player 15m to 20m, nothing more. I fear we paid well over the odds.

The World Cup will give him a real boost imo. I believe that Joachim Low was talking him up a few weeks back not merely as a ploy to boost his confidence but because he genuinely views him as an integral part of a class side. If, as I suspect he will, Ozil puts in some great performances of the sort we all know he's capable of it will not only be great for him heading into next season, it will really make his critics think twice about why he's not excelled as hoped in the last few months.

Or maybe they will dig up Kaiser Wilhelm and play him up front so that Ozil can acclimatise to similar playing conditions as with Arsenal.

The difference playing with other players on a similar technical and intelligence level makes! If Arsene had a footballing brain he would build the team around Ozil the way he should have built the team around Cesc. But that would involve spending money to bring in at least 3 or 4 other top level players and we all know he ain't never going to do that.

As much as we like to laugh and take the piss about the whole Arshavin/Burger King debacle, I would contend that Arsene's misuse of AA23 effectively ruined a quality player with real vision and technique. Now having said that I'd also agree that AA23 was a huffy lazy crunt and did himself no favours BUT if he had been managed properly and played to his strengths maybe we'd never have had to see the fat lazy pissed-off AA23 that we all came to love so much!

However he played, the fans weren't impressed with him.

Mesut Özil's season went from bad to worse on Wednesday night as he was whistled by a section of Germany fans when substituted during his side's victory over Chile.

Jogi Löw's side won 1-0 but, despite setting up the only goal of the game, the Arsenal midfielder was singled out by the home crowd in Stuttgart, being jeered as he was taken off in the 89th minute. Özil's team-mates reacted angrily to the crowd's reaction, Jérôme Boateng saying: "They have some nerve. You can't shine all the time."

The team manager, Oliver Bierhoff, added: "I don't understand the whistling. I find it a shame that a player such as Mesut is picked out [for that kind of reaction]. I would hope for different support for a game like that."

Löw, meanwhile, was more concerned with his side's performance. "We weren't capable of dominating the game. It is always good when one can see that Germany is not the only country to have good players."

Götze struck against the run of play in the 16th minute after Özil eluded three defenders on the edge of the area. Götze took the Arsenal midfielder's pass with his right foot and then scooped it over Chile goalkeeper Johnny Herrera with his left.

Eduardo Vargas came closest for Chile when he struck the crossbar in the second half. Arturo Vidal should have equalized in the first as the dominant visitors failed to capitalize on a stuttering performance from the home side.

"You can say it was a lucky win," Germany captain Philipp Lahm said and it was far from convincing ahead of the World Cup in 98 days, and Germany coach Joachim Löw was unable to hide his frustration, even before his side drew whistles from fans at the end.

The national coach has had to tear up his first-choice lineup due to injuries and poor form. He shifted Lahm to defensive midfield, with Kevin Grosskreutz filling in at right-back.
