As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
A good read with some interesting points. I would take Klopp in a heartbeat and I also think Martinez would be a success. It would just be a refreshing change to see a manager who took the time to study the opposition and prepare accordingly, rather than just 'play our own game'.
Agreed. I honestly think the team we have is quite good. It's not far off being a top side, but it is seriously hamstrung (sic) by the manager's myopic unrealistic view of how football "should be played". We obviously need a top top striker and a new left back (and a couple of other signings) but I believe if we had a manager that understood (Christ - even believed in) tactics this side could go on to achieve great things. I'd take Martinez in a heartbeat. Just to try something different, just to see what an informed, humble, pragmatic manager could do with these players. And if he didn't win anything? Well, is that any worse than Arsene has done in the last 10 years?
this. top post.
i'd also add that as well as any new manager we need to overhaul the medical and training and fitness teams.
, and bring in someone who can negotiate a transfer.
i'd take Martinez,Rodgers, Remi Garde, Van Gaal, or Marco Van Basten in a heartbeat. so what if we didn't win anything - at least we tried to shake it up.
the problem with the AKB's is that they still believe that some magical transformation is going to happen and next season we're going to back to 1998.
well, the Stadium was built EIGHT years, 1998 isn't coming.
Martinez also seems a very loyal guy, he had numerous job opportunities when he was with Wigan and chose to stay with them up until the time the right offer came along. Everton was a win win for him because he was always going to improve upon the football played by Moyes. That might well work for us too but due to said loyalty we might have to wait for him...say 3 more years?
when we do eventually get a new manager, we're going to need someone with extensive good player contacts to strengthen the squad, an ability to deal with players and their mostly venal agents, and the ability to freshen up and motivate the players already at the club. That takes a lot of talent, tactical knowhow and charisma. Klopp might manage it. Ancelotti also.
Martinez, I doubt it. I like Martinez enormously but he's the right manager for a 2nd tier club.
No-one good will take the job if Wenger is still hanging about like a bad smell upstairs either.

Whilst that is a reasonable point to make about Martinez he has always had to work with a restricted budget and I would be intrigued to see what he could do with money to invest in the squad. Tactically he has shown he has the nous to get big results with players not up to the standard we have, I have the feeling he would thrive in the pressure too.
Klopp would probably bring more of an immediate impact, would love to see him here if only for his photo bombing skills
Unfortunately, we missed the boat this summer as regards most other 'top' clubs changing managerial personnel. We should have signed a top-drawer striker in addition to Özil and our failure to do so means we have one of the world's most crative players trying to thread through balls to one of the most immobile strikers I've clapped eyes on and a midfield devoid of players able/willing/allowed to break into the box.
This season has been such a missed opportunity it's not funny but I can see the board becoming desperate to sign Wenger up as they're shit-scared of changing the status quo.
It would almost be funny if it hadn't been going on for the best part of a decade.
As much as I am desperate to be rid of Wenger ... these words from Gazidis a year or two ago give a chilling indication of what the future may bring:
“As a club, we have to make sure that all of the things that Arsène has brought to the club are enshrined in our DNA to make sure that, when Arsène decides it’s time, we are in a position to take his ideas and work forward’’.
When Arsene decides its time eh? FFS you snivelling spineless ... YOU are meant to make this decision! And the very last thing we need is everything Wenger has brought being enshrined in our DNA. I cant think of anything worse!

okay, so answer these three simple questions then :
1) why did we leave Highbury to pay the highest ticket prices in world football ?
2) Why do we have the worlds 4th highest paid manager ?
3) given 1) and 2) do you think we as fans get value for our money ?
The real fear is if he decides to move upstairs and you know they'll let me, in which case we get some tailors dummy standing in the technical area and Wenker giving himself another 10 years to try out his ideas

Football is an entertainment and to me the main joy of that entertainment comes in the form of particular games, especially v Man U, v Spurs or Liverpool, etc or whatever turns out to the most thrilling or exasperating encounters of the season, pulling my hair out of refereeing decisions, shouting my head off (for good or bad), seeing how the team progresses since last season or arguing about players and tactics.
The way that some journalists and fans talk you would think that any season in which the team doesn’t win a trophy is somehow a waste of a season in which we’ve been cheated and should be demanding our money back (which basically applies to 16 to 19 out of the 20 teams every season). Almost like saying that a new album from your favourite band was only worth listening to provided it won a Grammy.
Did you enjoy the games or not? Did you at least get to watch a few great victories or impressive and passionate displays from your team? Silverware and ‘winning something’ is the great bonus cherry on top and something that of course we aspire to, but it’s not reason I watch football. People say that Arsene hasn’t won anything in 8 years. Actually, he has won a lot of games and given me some great entertainment. He hasn’t won any trophies, but I’m a grown man, so I’ll survive that disappointment.
Can't stand this pacified, small-time mentality. It's idiots like this that keep Wenger in the job.

Yes, its embarrassing, to expect one of the biggest clubs in Europe to win trophies. You want to know what's embarrassing, signing a player, who was injured, before his medical, or a manager, trying to get any striker he could on the last day of the window on loan, and that's only in this transfer window, the amount of errors Arsenal as a club have made are embarrassing, and you and your defend Wenger at all costs attitude, is embarrassing.

agreed.
they've gone from "its the stadium" to "its the lack of money" to "trophies aren't important"....
they obviously have no idea of our history - we are the club that sacked Terry Neill two years after he took us to three consecutive FA Cup finals and a ECWC final because he finished 6th in the league, which Denis Hill-Wood described as "disappointing" given the money he'd spent.
Arsene Wengers defenders are so delusional its embarrassing - when Chelsea fans are signing "Arsene Wenger we want you to stay" they think they're not mocking us
we don't expect trophies but we expect to fucking try and Kallstrom and Sanogo is not what i call trying FFS.
"I mean Djourou is still an Arsenal player at 27...what a youth policy that is"
Just read this quote on a website and this just reminds you of the money we have wasted on the infamous vanity project.
The majority of Arsenal fans had enough by the end of last summer, Wenger bought time with the ozil transfer.
Barring a miracle FA Cup win we'll finish trophyless once again (who would be daft to bet against that), surely even stubborn Arsene has to accept that it's over for him, football caught him up long ago.
He has had chance after chance after chance. He should have gone last season, but he will see out his contract. Surely then it's time to move on.
People who claim that trophies don't matter are the tinyority who Arsene and the management have successfully fooled, but in the real footballing world, 9 years is enough proof to say it's over!
0 trophies in 36 attempts. If you try and work out the win percentage your calculator will tell you that Arsenal FC are now a Joke!!
