More than 6 weeks for Jack

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Lads it is too early to write wilshere off - yes he is badly out of form and yes he goes to ground easily and seems injury prone and it is an absolute disgrace that he played on the other night BUT, he has all the tools to be a great (not good) player for us and is more than capable of turning things around.

My concerns with jack going forward is tactically/positionally - in my scenario we revert to 4-4-2 with a big powerful DM and a creative ball player alongside him and imo jack is too small to fill one role and not creative to fill the other. I have similar concerns about where ramsey, cazorla and ozil would fit into that team although the latter will probably long gone by then. To maximise jack's talents we will either have to play a 4-3-1-2 or a 3-5-2 system and neither will happen anytime soon

The thing is Augies, he has never been in form, as far as I can recall, his " good form" has been a motd and tabloid myth.

Yeah, he mysteriously went shyte after signing his new £60k a week contract...now how unusual is it for that to happen to an Arsenal player?

A fit in-form Wilshere (pre-injury) would be fine next to Flamini in midfield, but even so I would choose a fit in-form Ramsey over Wilshere.

Since when do Liverpool have half our budget? They spunk away as much money on wages as we do don't they? And for a weaker squad. And as DB10 says bar Sturridge that English core is nowt special.

yeah i had a chuckle at Gerrard as a 'core' - they have played much better without him.

outside of Liverpool i think the jury is still out on Henderson.

Henderson is their Ramsey, I'd still prefer the Welshman of the two of them, but you can't deny the rather simple Wearside lad has been mightily impressive this season.

I can and will! He's been pretty good. Mightily impressive is a bit of an exaggeration imo, if he hadn't played like a turd the previous season it wouldn't seem so impressive and just like Cleverley/Wigan if he was still knocking round at Sunderland putting in that type of performance every week he wouldn't be getting a look in for England.

Would not have done well today. His habit of running down blind alleys and holding on to the ball too long would have played straight into Everton's hands, we looked far more impressive playing more expansive.

I still can't believe that a lad voted Player of the Year a couple of seasons ago for both Arsenal and by the PFA , who then suffered a serious injury which lead to him missing a whole season, and has subsequently had other ones and thus has not been totally fit for a couple of seasons, can be slagged off so much by not only his own fans but probably the very same fans that were joining everyone else singing his praises not that far back.

Not an ounce of consideration has been given to the effects of being out so long on his development nor has he received the sympathy and understanding that a player who has gone through that should get. :banghead: :banghead: And of course when he did play well it's only because the opposition were weak. Now it's one thing slagging players off that aren't good enough for the club but it's another doing it to someone who does have the ability and fighting attitude we fans all claim we want to see in our players, but is struggling for consistency due to the injury set-backs.

Indeed, I knew even before the match that, should we win, the haters would be out claiming we only did so because Jack wasn't in the team!! Really? :? And how can you prove that? :rubchin: How predictable and, even worse, embarrassing.

hate is a bit strong, most on here hope the rest will do him good. physically and mentally.

i do think we're better without him in his current form - if you dont, what do you think was the reason for change in pace and directness amongst the other four midfielders ?

im very interested to see if we go on a run now, or we suffer another stoke or Southampton.

The issue with Wilshere is not his injuries but his attitude. The "England's Golden Boy" tag has well and truly got to his head, he thinks and plays like he's the star man and wants to do too much when he just needs to keep it simple. When you look at the likes of Rambo and Ox, they've kicked on massively because they got their head down, kept their feet on the ground and worked hard. Wilshere's development on the other hand has stalled and imo that's more down to his mentality than anything else. He hasn't kicked on, he thinks he's made it already.

And yes, we looked so much better without him running into traffic and brainlessly giving the ball away in dangerous areas yesterday.
