The media may not want to hammer the point home because it's not as much fun as laughing at United or basking in Citeh's graceless demise but the atmosphere at Spurs must be pretty low. The promise of enterprising football has quickly evaporated and the cycle they had under AVB of scraping a few wins before a horror show or two stops them in their tracks has continued. Surely even their deluded fans can put a miraculous comeback against Dnipro into context?

Sherwood not only criticised the players, he questioned their work ethic, professionalism and desire to win. Might work for a Mourinho or a Ferguson, unlikely to be well received by a group of players who haven't gelled all season coming from a motormouth manager who talks a cracking game to the press but is pretty devoid of ideas on the pitch. Although AVB's experiment failed at least the bloke had a vision and commitment to it. Sherwood is just treading water until the inevitable sacking, whether it's in two months or two years.

With reference to the away fixture how is it impressive? 3 wins in 17 attempts? In each of those 17 seasons we have proved ourselves better than them over the course of the season, regularly by 20+ points, yet we've only managed 3 wins there?

At least they won't need to worry about the return leg.

Watching this game is a little worrying because anytime these :censored: are low on confidence we always turn up and give them a boost, 4-4,2-3.

I want us to do the opposite for once and bury their season.

Loving the Benfica manager doing a Theo with the old Timmy what's the score hand signals

Nice to see the scum adhereing to a bit of healf and safety, the fire drill started early

Just hope we start well and work as hard as benfica did tonight. There is no point pressing unless it's collective. Their confidence is so shot right now, we HAVE TO take advantage.

No handshake from the benches there...oh dear :box:

Of course I'd much rather have drawn 10 and lost 4 than drawn 7 and lost 7 but look at the disparity between the sides over that 17 years. They have been mid-table (at best) for most of it before becoming a UEFA Cup team, we were a top team for a decade and even since then have lingered in the top few places. We should not be measuring our record by how many defeats we've avoided.

Also on a more pragmatic view for the vast part avoiding defeat doesn't have the same significance as at Chelsea or United - until the last few years denying Spurs 2 points is going to have done us fuck all good come the end of the season.

19 points from 17 visits. Impressive?

Form goes out the window in derby games. Us at home is the biggest game of their season and with that in mind, our record there is impressive if anything. We went a whole decade unbeaten at the lane, that is bloody impressive.

Their confidence is shattered now but they'll up for it on Sunday you can be sure of that.

Split the stats pre 05 and post 05 and see how impressive they are.
