Championship Strikers

Post by gp543 »

Leeds and Blackburn aren't coming up most likely. So, would you have a punt on McCormack/Rhodes in the summer?

For sake of argument, I'm assuming that Leceister and Burnley are automatically coming up and will hold onto their strikers.

I've no idea how good they are so can't comment.

But we are beyond "punt" territory now. We need a world class striker and have done for some time.

Giroud is a back up... and after that, yeah, take a punt on someone. Let them fight it out with Sanogo.

We're getting rid of Bendtner in the summer, no point in replacing him with another championship quality striker.

We'll have Campbell back to battle it out with Sanogo next season so the only striker we should be signing should be first choice.

No point scraping the barrel-we need quality up front

I can sort of understand questioning about Rhodes but McCormack? Fat Scottish fuck is gash. He's barely good enough for a team at the top of the Championship, never mind CL!

And why does it matter that Leicester/Burnley are coming up? As if we wouldn't be able to poach one of their players

Championship strikers? If we want to finish midtable then yes.

Who will you move onto next season if Diego Costa moves somewhere and fails to make his mark like Jovetic this season?

Just out of interest, why do you think Ross McCormack is a good player for Arsenal to sign?

A 27 years old journeyman, having played his career in Scotland (Rangers, Motherwell) and the English lower leagues (Doncaster, Cardiff, Leeds), only managed 10 caps for Scotland and apart from this season, has never really been a prolific goalscorer.

He hardly seems an obvious candidate... so what is it about him you like so much?

Why add a Championship striker unproven at top level who would cost us minimum £5M, we already have a few unproven young strikers on the books: Sanogo, Afobe, Akpom, Ansah, Lipman?

Should buy a top striker to replace Bendtner, though if Giroud stays I would happily add Remy (13 goals in 23 appearances this season, found innocent of rape charge) whom others do not consider a top striker.

I too would like us to get Remy. The fact is we are not going to sign a world class striker in the summer so rather than let Remy go to Newcastle on the cheap and then spend the entire summer apparently chasing targets we have no intention of signing, it would be great to just sign Remy early. He's a decent finisher and most importantly he's got good movement and pace. With the likes of Ozil and Cazorla behind him he could do a great job.

Yeah they are quality, just what we need to take us to the next level, Bayern, Real, Barcelona would all shit it if they knew McCormack or Rhodes were up against them

Leaving him with a total of 48 goals in 130 Championship appearances at Leeds. I saw him play quite often when he was at Cardiff and he was the type of striker that offered fuck all and pop up every 2 or 3 games and score a tap-in or bang in a penalty, often spurning plenty of chances along the way. Basically a Championship Darren Bent - will score goals at a mid-table side (at the expense of others) but doesn't offer enough for a side towards the top of the league.

At Cardiff he also had one good goalscoring season and not much else. Goals scored during his 6 Championship seasons - 21 (in 38), 4 (34), 2 (23), 18 (45), 5 (32), 23 (32). For a start he's just physically not up to PL football at any level, never mind the huge limitations in his game.
