THE WENGER THREAD

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

We have had a much better season than recent years in large part due to Wenger changing his policies in two key areas:
1. Getting rid of lazy/unprofessional/unintelligent players such as Arshavin, Song, Eboue, Denilson and replacing with intelligent/professional players such as Arteta, Mertesacker, Flamini (this process started a couple of yrs ago)
2. Finally spending big money on a world class player

However a few of his old failings are still holding us back:
1. Inability to win big games and no idea how to counter the basic negative tactics yet again used by Moyes (copying Fergie) and Mourinho
2. Awful management of players' fitness leading to yet another injury/fatigue crisis in the run in (as in 08, 2010 & 2011)
3. Yet again failing to spend that extra £10m-£15m in a key area (up front) that could well have made the difference

for this we pay wenger 5million a year and are offering him a new contract.
Thanks for that mate, now I know it only matters what we do against man united. The other 36 games don't matter.

Mate, forget where we get the points because it dosn't matter. The fact is we're in a title race.
And we'd be 5 points better off in that title race if we'd beaten them

But seriously, although there is a tendency to get bogged down every single game and some people seemingly think we should drop no silly points all season, the United point is a valid one. l.
remind me - weren't we 5 points clear when we had united at home, or would have gone clear 5pts over the chavs ?

momentum is key, had we won we would of kept our momentum going AND put extra pressure on the chavs.

and don't get me wrong, it wasn't the loss of 2 points - it was that we really didn't try to go at them when their confidence and game was low.

sometimes i think you have to push home your advantage so that when the cock ups, sending offs, pens etc do happen youre still in contention.

FWIW i think its laughable that people are talking about us as now being back in the title race - we are 4 points behind the chavs with a game in hand and them up next to play. way to early imho.

if we win then we're back in and not before - a tame 0-0 will not do it either. but we reduce that gap to 1 point then fuck yeah, its a 3 way race and if we deny city with a draw or win, then its a 4 way.

it could be a mental finish couldn't it - 3 teams on the last day ? LOL
Whereas our confidence must have been sky high after our trip to Anfield.

If we avoid defeat to Chavski in his 1000th match and that contract isn't signed I can sense a march coming on

so we capitulated a home game from the start against a much weaker side. yes i know thats how wenger spun it, i'm just shocked people believe that.

what ever happened to good teams losing and then taking revenge on the next poor suckers through the door ? - a leader gets his team looking for blood, flying into tackles, tearing at defenders, etc etc to get the loss out of their system and prove it was a blip...prove a point personally and professionally, show some fucking pride in the shirt.

instead he set us up meekly, too afraid to lose. again.

big managers look for a big response from their players after a heavy defeat. ours was more worried about their mental strength :banghead:

he's a small man now. he is.

Dear Sir, spot on! This is exactly how it seems and feels to me too. I was very disappointed after ManU match as it looked like the team just tried to avoid mistakes and... well, not to lose.

He'd only go somewhere with less opposition than Bayern - I can't see it happening unless paramilitant loyalists come good on their old threats to off Neil Lennon.
