I do not understand the school of though that says "If Wenger leaves who on earth would replace him?"

I think nearly every manager in world football would be interested in the job, though a small group such as Pellegrini, Mourinho, Klopp, Rodgers and Guardiola would be very unlikely to take it at present.

- Good salary.

- A chance to go to a club where there has been little silverware for a decade.
That leaves a lot less pressure to live up to the former manager than Moyes has faced at Man Utd.

- Chance to live and work in and near London.

- Great pitch, modern stadium, large attendances.

- Great training ground.

- Club with a strong historical identity.

- Opportunity to work with, and potential to improve, good young players i.e. The Ox, Gnabry, Zelalem, Ramsey.

Precisely. The Arsenal is up there as one of the biggest and most prestigious clubs in the world, despite the drought of the last few years. Who wouldn't want the chance to manage one of England's biggest clubs? The idea of there being not one suitable candidate to replace Wenger is as ludicrous as the notion that there is not one single player that would improve the squad every transfer window.

Diego Simeone. As a bonus he'd bring Costa with him.

although I would like Wenger to leave I have accepted that as it now looks as though we will finish in the top 4 again and he has taken us to Wembley then it is more likely that he will sign the new 3 year contract.

there is highly unlikely to be any dissenting voices at the Emirates for the rest of the season with a possible FA Cup final to look forward to.

there is therefore little point discussing who may or may not succeed him. In 2017 there will be completely new managers as possible successors.

With that in mind, who would people have as their top three realistic replacements?

In terms of prestige, most top managers would be interested in the job, but what everyone forgets is that with the incompetent board we have, the chances of a proper manager coming in are slim. No top manager, will want a job that he has to penny pinch every season, also the thoughts of Ivan Gazidis trying to find a manager, makes me want to weep, with the sort of muppet he will find.

The Telegraph taking the p*ss with a quiz on whether certain 'philosophising' quotes were said by Wenger, David Brent or Nietzsche http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/footba ... -test.html

I would be happy with any of those, but would be most excited about Simeone.

At least with Benitez and Martinez you know there would be attention paid to our opponents, tactics adjusted accordingly, and with Simeone he seems to be able to get the very best from his players in terms of commitment etc, so the games in the last few years where we have either shown up expecting to win or just not turned up at all, would be a far less occurence.

None of them might be available in 2017 though

3. Simeone would have to be a contender if available - would have to think hard about how his approach would translate to PL football as for me the difference between La Liga and PL is huge tactically.

2. Martinez: He has so much potential as a manager and if it worked out we'd reap the benefits well beyond the end of his reign imo. He laid a fantastic platform at Swansea for Rodgers to swoop in and take credit for, winning the FA Cup was a huge achievement at Wigan and he has done well at Everton - if only he could crack their fluctuations due to over-dependency on one striker, it's held them back for nearly a decade. Also plays football but my one niggling concern is his consistency. Has proven with their ability to get huge results (beating the likes of us and United to stay up in 2011/12, FA Cup Final) that he can get tactics spot on and get his players motivated for the big games, and I admire his desire to play football but most of the time they would just get rolled over with no resistance and had a habit of going on dreadful runs (even by their standards).

1. Klopp: Don't think it's unrealistic. He built a great team at Dortmund, last year saw Bayern beat them to the post on all 3 fronts and now like previous Bundesliga champions Bayern have muscled them into submission. Bayern have won the title by November the last two seasons and have poached their two best players (with one seemingly making his mind up to screw Dortmund over and go on a free 18-24 months before his contract ended). How pissed off must he be? Certainly seems it judging by how often he's pulled up for his touchline behaviour. Imo he must be pretty fucked off at being unable to really challenge Bayern and would love a chance to manage in the PL where - despite what some would tell you - the competition is a lot fairer than Germany. He would be the most difficult of the three to get and it would depend who else was looking for a manager at the time but I think if we offered him a deal on the sort of money Wenger trousers from the club it would seriously tempt him to leave Dortmund. Especially if Bayern beat them on all three fronts again this season.

Whenever father or brother AKB churn out the old "who would be get?" load of bollox, this mans name is first of several that comes out of my mouth.

It's entirely possible we could land Klopp after Wengers rein for reasons others have said (large, prestigious club, high salary etc.) He certainly wouldn't stick with buying crocks and is aware that substitutions can be made off the cuff, amongst other benefits.

On a slightly different note, brother AKB came out with a cracker. I was complaining about Giroud after he fell on his arse and said that it's unbelievable Wenger didn't buy a better striker, to which my brother said "there's no point in complaining because the transfer window is closed and that your complaining won't change anything".

Retard

lets hope so, but the Torygraph says he waiting until the summer because....wait for it... and this will floor you all :

The club remain extremely confident that Wenger will extend his deal, probably by three more years, but there is a growing acceptance that he will not interrupt his preparations for the final two months of the season to deal with contract negotiations.

pure comedy genuis right there.

unless of course by preparation they mean :

1. negotiate TV deal with French TV to world cup
2. book plane tickets
3. find some nice hotels where mrs W can lay out
4. find books for the plane so he can continue with pithy witticisms.....
5. buy new white speedos for the cocacabana.
6. learn portuguese so he can fail to learn anything in the local language.
7. look at some likely locations for scouting talent - surely there must be some french africans someeher in Brazil ? le Amazon maybe ?
