How do Arsenal's results affect you?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I just laughed yesterday, watching the old fool in his familiar pose with his head in his hands was a joy.
My feelings then turned to anger, loathing and a thirst for murder.

After Nayim I chucked a chair through a screen door and after Galatassary I kicked my bedroom door to pieces. I have since learned to manage my anger, probably because i'm now the wrong side of 35.

Now? Now I can't really mange even a mild huff as I'm inured to Wenger and his team letting me down. Sad face.

My moods fluctuate like the weather - at times I cant be arsed to get angry, at other times I am way beyond the point where anger kicks in, but most of the time my feelings are a mixture of despair, frustration and acceptance :( The players are far from blameless of course but most of my emotions are formed by my feelings towards the board and (mainly) the manager.

When it the company of non Gooners, I use the old "I told you that we are shit/gutless" as my safety mechanism - I know that if they thought that they could wind me up, they would take the piss out of me for days but they don't bother when they think that it aint working  Of course inwardly I am dying a slow and painful death although I obviously am learning (with every failed season) how to deal with it better although that is something that my wife and kids might not agree with

Having lost nearest and dearest I try to tell myself that it doesn't matter, and there's a bigger picture to see, but after 43 years with The Arsenal and watching the 3 performances we've put in this season it's hurt real bad. Especially as we were in a position with a coupla decent signings to really compete this season. Following bad results it could be a trip down the beach - certainly eases things and puts things into perspective - go out into garden/garage and 'do stuff' with the game going round in my head, or go and thack a ball about in the back garden and try to justify to my boy why we support The Arsenal. Spose' it's taking the good with the bad - the joy of the Thierry days with the ineptness we've seen recently. :barscarf:

I do the same but my line is "all Gooners are accustom to failure now" and laugh it off while secretly grinding my teeth in anger

I suppose it is also the modern day portion of it as well which adds to the drama - we have a seat where you can vent to total strangers with instant reaction about the absurdity of men making millions of pounds for kicking a sack of wind.

When you think about it, it makes it even more laughable. However, I am just as much of a victim of it as everyone else :-)
This, so this.

It's a bloody game and is supposedly a source of entertainment. I think if you get to the point of being genuinely angry because of a football result then it's time to consider a different hobby. Disappointment is fine, we've all been disappointed a million times with football, but it's anger that I don't understand. Rage at a manager just because he's trying his hardest every year against massive odds. Abusing him as if he's not another bloody human being!

Even when paying through the nose to go and watch us I've never been angry, just disappointed, when I leave a game and we've not performed. Nowhere on my ticket does it ever say 'This ticket entitles you to watch a 4-0 victory over the opposition, with two goals in each half, one of which is an absolute worldie." What makes football entertaining is that it's unpredictable, you don't expect to win 5-2 after being 2-0 after 40 minutes but similarly you don't expect to lose 8-2 either. It seems to be that some people feel they're entitled to see certain results.

I try not to let an Arsenal result get me down but I always hate it when they screw up round about the time of my birthday (they did this year against Stoke).

If you care about something so much (as most of us do) then becoming angry is a natural reaction at times. If it's just a hobby for you then that's fine but don't judge other people's reactions just cos they are not in keeping with your casual attitude.

Manager trying his best is he ?? Well then his best is no longer good enough is it ? If he gave a shit about the club and if results like this actually embarrassed him then he should do the honourable thing and fcuk off but instead he treats our club like his personal project and refuses to change his principles despite the fact that the game has moved on - it is because of that fact that we are being left behind

What massive odds are stacked against him ?? FFS instead of swallowing all the bullshit that his disciples spout, why don't you actually do some proper research cos you might learn that we have an unused transfer kitty of over 100m just sitting gathering dust in the bank  Do you think that spending that money might improve our chances of winning trophies again ? Please fcuk off with your "against massive odds" line cos not alone is it inaccurate but it is cringeworthy too

Nowhere on my ticket does it say that I am assured of a victory either but I'm damn sure that it entitles me to expect that the manager and every player will at least do their absolute best to get a victory. You speak about how unpredictable football is but then choose to ignore the predictability that we will get thumped in EVERY SINGLE BIG GAME - there is nothing unpredictable about our formation, about our tactics or even our substitutions and every man on the street knows what we are going to do so if it hasn't worked away to citeeh and it hasn't worked away to the victims, then how the fcuk was it ever gonna work yesterday ?? I expect a manager getting paid 7m per season to realise that and alter his plans accordingly

How do Arsenals results affect me? Long story.

The first time I felt 'affected' was when the unbeaten run came to an end in '05.I felt miserable & angry because of Rooney's dive. Other than that, that season I wasn't hugely affected because we won the FA cup and we finished second so there was always next year (3 words of doom in hendseight).

The 05/06 season I felt depressed just utterly depressed. We were losing week in week out. We were awful and it was clear Wenger was losing control. I was elated when we finished 4th though on the final day. We needed that to stay in CL footaball, especially as we bet the kitchen sink on the stadium.

06/07 I felt nothing because it ws basically the season before but with less CL qualification worries.

07/08 I was happy and ecstatic that we were finally back in the race....then Birmingham happened.

08/09 was like 06/07 but more painful because we lost Hleb and Flamini. It felt like the future we were promised had abandoned ship.

After the LC loss to Birmingham I have felt nothing at all. It doesn't affect me much anymore, it just feels like we are in limbo and there's no point getting emotion involved. It doesn't help by the fact that we never learn from mistakes eg SPEND SOME EFFING MONEY!

I feel like fucking shit. Yesterday was as bad as the 8-2, perhaps even worse. Fuck the fuck off Wenger.

I hate it and in the past would take copious amounts of class a's and drink a lot writing off Sunday alltogether .
No TV no radio no Newspapers !
Having said that I did the same if we won only I would get up and go get the papers and have a Sunday Roast !

Now I just go to bed and get up with my soon to be three year old little boy and spend the day playing like a kid with a kid,its great !

Over the years, as I've got older, the pain has dulled more and more. It used to ruin my week, now I genuinely expect a battering from top teams and expect us to struggle against 'dirty' teams like Stoke. It's much easier these days because the blame lies at one persons door at Arsenal, we have a dictator who decides on everything, therefore all my anger is on one man, one myopic, arrogant, stubborn old fool. After a Fulham game four years ago I swore I would not attend another Arsenal game whilst Wonga was in charge (after having a ST for 30 years), and I haven't been. I love Arsenal but it's a damaged relationship now and it will never be the same again.

I have been on the Change Curve for a number of years.

Watching the transition from a top, trophy winning club with further potential to a club that sees 4th place as a great season.

I am now in acceptance/integration that we will not resume our place at the top with Wenger in control so getting battered by the title contenders has no real impact on my emotions.
