Press conference cancelled tomorrow

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Press conference cancelled tomorrow

Post by The Joy of Cesc »

Somethings going on - the press conference tomorrow has been cancelled, nothing from the club on twitter for over a day, and nothing from any players has been posted on twitter either.

Would there be a radio silence, so to speak, if that's why?

Not sure, I don't really think that is the reason. I can understand banning the players' social media use as some of them (Szczesny especially) are liable to make a stupid statement or divulge too much information about what went on afterwards. And I can imagine Wenger wasn't overly impressed by the 'selfie' business last weekend, looks pretty fucking foolish now doesn't it.

I have to say I am nonplussed as to Wenger's press conference being cancelled though. Although he is hardly known for his hard-hitting honesty the press conference would have been extremely tame and any questions about yesterday pied off the same as his BBC interview with vague remarks about "taking responsibility" and "not playing at a high enough level" that mean nothing. I don't think he's running away from it, my guess is he just thinks it may be a distraction and the negativity it generated by re-hashing the game wouldn't be great for the players.

There are rumours going round that he had a 2 hour meeting today and will be announcing his retirement for the end of the season...but most probably bullshit because Wenger will be here forever and ever and ever. He is the Emperor Palpatine of world football.

So it's everyone getting up at 6am, tomorrow then and keep SSN on all day waiting for the/an announcement?

Sadly will not be able to keep an eye on Sky as my company have made us all install software on our pc's that tracks what we've been doing all day - and Sky would definitely be in the red "non productive" category. A bit like our team yesterday.

No doubt the original plan was to mark the celebration of the 1000th game with There's Only One confirming his new contract. I think they'll be letting the dust settle.....that day will still come though, whether post Swansea or at the end of the season

While I hope Mr T's assessment is accurate I'm more inclined to agree with SteveO's reckoning.

I hope against hope he announces he can't hack it anymore.

I think he's finishing at the end of the season. Shame, but maybe when whoever takes over misses out on the top 4 you guys might realise that wenger is actually a good manager.
