Ian Wright programme tonight 11pm

Post by StuartL »

Just thought I'd let you lot know in case you hadn't seen it, on ITV4 tonight at 11pm is the programme Ian Wright : Nothing to Something - I think its the documentary where he sits up in the Highbury East Stand and is reminiscing about his early days at school etc when his old pe teacher wanders down and Wright is absolutely stunned (unusual for him to be lost for words)

Yeah watched that a few weeks ago when it was first on - does indeed include that clip.

Not too much new in it but found it a very interesting watch none the less. Quite a bit of focus on Wrighty's childhood-a few good goals and also had Wrighty reminiscing about Rocky-quite an emotional watch at times

I've seen that clip, brilliant. IWWW8 was my favourite player growing up. I was hooked on football and Arsenal from birth (not that I had any choice) but as a young kid it was Ian Wright that really shaped my love of the game. His background and late breakthrough helped make him one of the most determined and passionate players I have ever witnessed. And not just on the pitch, I remember walking past the East Stand and he was hanging out the window shouting to the fans. As a young kid starting to go to football matches that is pretty magical.

I worshipped the ground he walked on, far more than even the likes of DB10 or TH14. Maybe it's looking at it through a kid's eyes or just basic nostalgia (or simply hating the prick) but when I hear reference to somebody like Rooney's background or rags-to-riches tale it doesn't really strike the same chord given he probably earned double the average salary as a 16-year old whilst spending it on decrepit streetwalkers. I don't agree with all (or even most) of what he says as a pundit on football generally but I will never lose respect for him as a player and there will never be anyone else like him. Ever.

Watched it a couple of times, really emotional talking about Rocky. Love Ian Wright, as a player he had bags of passion and loved playing for the Arsenal. Wish we had him around these days. LEGEND :barscarf:
