THE WENGER THREAD

Your obviously not the Laughing Gooner then are you as I know his views are rather different !

We have become the laughing stock of the country.
He's made us the global club we have become and given his successor a sound foundation to work on.
Check your history mate - he inherited a sound base from GG when he came to the club and we had just won a European trophy (that actually held value back then) and been beaten in final the following year. He inherited a club that had the appeal to entice a player to join us, who had all of europe's top clubs looking to sign him just 18 months previously - that player was of course Dennis Bergkamp

If you are a genuine Gooner then I would suggest that you are someone who hasn't supported the club long or at least didn't support the club pre wenker. Throughout our history we were a club that were slated for being "boring boring Arsenal". During wenkers early reign we were a club that was slated as being dirty/indisciplined and the red card statistic was frequently wheeled out. Did either of those outsiders perceptions bother us ? Did they fcuk - we are Gooners and we don't, and nor should we, give a continental fcuk what other football fans think about us cos we only care about what happens within our club
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
No its shameful that he earns 7.5 million a year to win nothing, and its also shameful that in order to justify his wages, he pretends top four finishes are success, rather than admitting he isn't up to the job, and walking away. This is a guy that constantly lies to the fans, and would rather win nothing by doing it his way, than going out and spending money that could lead to actual success. This is also a man, who wont let anyone criticise him, as we have seen on plenty of occasions, when the media have said anything critical to him, as far as I am concerned, he deserves all the abuse he gets.LaughingGooner wrote:Whatever failings Wenger has developed, it's shameful the abuse he's had to take.

Yeah, you need over 16,000 posts on some forum to be deemed a 'genuine gooner'......augie wrote:LaughingGooner wrote:Whatever failings Wenger has developed, it's shameful the abuse he's had to take.

Don't believe the hype of Bergkamp being in demand back in '95....he was on the back of a poor season in Italy, many were questioning if was mentally up for playing for one of Europe's top clubs.
He's always claimed Wenger made him into the player he became.
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Don Howe was sacked when we were 3rd in the League
Rioch sacked despite reaching the UEFA Cup
Terry Neill sacked despite reaching 4 major cup finals in 3 years (admittedly only winning 1
)
Modern Arsenal content with 4th place and no trophies for 9 years
Anyone who needed any further evidence of what a terrible influence the bloated CL has on proceedings need look no further

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
You questioned how long I've been supporting Arsenal, on the basis of my views on Wenger. I disagree with your views, so you question my loyalty to the club. Very bemusing, and I was making the point that maybe you need to post a lot here to prove how genuine a supporter you are.augie wrote:LaughingGooner wrote:Yeah, you need over 16,000 posts on some forum to be deemed a 'genuine gooner'......augie wrote:LaughingGooner wrote:Whatever failings Wenger has developed, it's shameful the abuse he's had to take.

Infighting amongst Gooners appears par for the course these days.
I went far more in the 80s and 90s, then in the recent decade but am still entitled to my views.
For what it's worth, I expect we will win the FA Cup, secure a top four place and then Wenger will sign a two year extension.
I am happy with that prospect, but seem to be in a minority on such fan sites.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
There are still many Arsenal supporters I know who are still brainwashed by Wenger and his "long term vision".
I personally think most of you have been patient as hell. I don't agree with the BOOOOOOs on matchday though, they are embarrassing. I'd vote with my feet and simply not go to the match - the fans need to do that in big numbers.

Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
Sport for me was always about finishing first, one of the worst things ever to happen the game was the glorofication of finishing fourth or indeed top 4. I think it was Jordan Henderson I heard interviewed on SSN around Christmas and it was put to him about Liverpool's chances of winning the title. His response? "The priority is top 4".
WTF????
Shameful for any sportsman or woman to limit their expections to finishing second, third or fourth. First is everything, second is nowhere, the game I love is gone to pot. Where did it all go wrong?

I agree with this and that is what made Fergie such an amazing manager for us. He simply didn't accept anything less than 1st place.rodders999 wrote:Sport for me was always about finishing first, one of the worst things ever to happen the game was the glorofication of finishing fourth or indeed top 4. Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
While Bergkamp arrived off the back of a couple of disappointing seasons in Italy overall, it was only the English media who were judging whether he could make it or not, the rest of Europe still knew he was a world class player who simply needed to find his way again. He came to us, the same time we also signed David Platt, which proves that Arsenal were a very reputable and renowned club throughout the world, before Wenger arrived.LaughingGooner wrote:Yeah, you need over 16,000 posts on some forum to be deemed a 'genuine gooner'......augie wrote:LaughingGooner wrote:Whatever failings Wenger has developed, it's shameful the abuse he's had to take.

It is undisputable that Wenger has enhanced and built upon that, but it is frustrating that some fans (not neccessarily you Laughing Gooner) see the picture that he dragged us up from nowhere like we were Blackburn. Young fans who weren't even alive pre-Wenger or not, they can at least check their history books (or wikipedia!)
Re: WENGER - Views For and Against.
It went wrong when the European cup became a mini league to enable a few to reap the rewards of entering but not having won anything. When greed took over the working man's game and people realised that football was more addictive than religion and there was money to be made.

Fergie also spent an absolute fortune for about 20 years of his tenure too. Wenger and his faux prudence have castrated our club in pursuit of one man's busted vanity project.Derek Acorah wrote:I agree with this and that is what made Fergie such an amazing manager for us. Do people still really believe that Wenger happily competed with Chelsea, City and Utd with tens of millions of pounds in the bank just lying there???officepest wrote:Fergie also spent an absolute fortune for about 20 years of his tenure too. Yeah it's not like the £100+ million in cash reserves could have bagged us a better striker than we already have is it? Way to "compete" eh?
