Wonga just plays too many people out of position, always. I can't remember when we DIDN'T play central midfielders out wide (or even shit strikers in Barry Benders case)!! Rather than sign players for positions, Wonga has to sign either 'utility' players who are average in several positions, or just play people where they are ineffective.
I've had more than enough of this shit and am dying for Wigan to stuff us 3-0 at the weekend.

This earlier thread whether to sell Cazorla seemed to come out strongly against.

Wonder if the results would be different now?
I think he is a very good number 10, but loses a lot of effectiveness when played wide.
Thats it quartz.....bring up another thread where augie is a mad b*stard/big bad wolf - mind you that can be nearly any thread if the truth be told

Anyway, what I will say is back then I argued the point (page 2) that it is impossible to play them both together, that playing one of them out wide wont work because that is not their natural position and also that playing either on the wing would seriously expose the full back playing behind them and I feel that, once people got by their outrage at my suggestion, there were all very valid points

Refering to yourself in the third person... Isn't that a sign of madness?augie wrote:QuartzGooner wrote:I would not include Ramsey or The Ox as players who were physically weak.topgoon wrote:

DB10GOONER cannot remember which...

Does this mean that Cazorla will be added to the *word censored* list and booed along with RVP, Nasri, Cole, Adebayor etc, etc...?

Add Özil to that list as well as he's the next scapegoat du jour.armchair wrote:Does this mean that Cazorla will be added to the *word censored* list and booed along with RVP, Nasri, Cole, Adebayor etc, etc...?
Strange how Arsene is always beyond reproach though.
Re: Cazorla Interview
We really need a solid mix of both. It's that mix that we badly lack. We have no game changers, no players that allow us to take a different game plan in, even if Wenger wanted to play tactically. whilst I enjoy having some very technical nippy guys in there who can create and make a difference, we NEED players who can protect, defend and fight for every ball. Too many of our players go down too easily, especially in CM. We need balance between the two style of players and we need depth. If you look back over the last 5 years, us not fighting for title has been heavily influenced by injuries because we don't have the quality in depth to deal with it. If we did win without that depth, it would be pure luck on the injury front, and I'm not convinced that'll happen. As money has poured into the game here with City and Chelsea, the need for more quality in depth has become essentially to staying in the title race to the end. L'pool are the exception, but with them, they didn't let a start player go because he cried, they hung on to him. I hate L'pool, but their comeback, although it took time, seems to have been well managed. They have a clear game plan and a manager who must prove himself and wants to.TeeCee wrote:Wonga has turned the team from being big, powerful and fast to little nippy guys who are 'technical' and have no stomach for a fight. Hopefully players speaking up will help change things for the better, but it could backfire. I holding my breath one last time for this summer, assuming Wenger stays, that we bring in some top quality. If it doesn't happen and the only pace we find is that which takes back into the 4th place fight, I will have to join the Wenger out crowd, although he'll always be a legend, I hope he would bow out if it all fucks up again.
Re: Cazorla Interview
Some of our supporters really need to look at themselves. They moan and bitch about just about everything under the sun and then when one of the players says something similar they turn all precious and ask how dare he. Cazorla used properly is as good as 95 % of premiership midfielders and I can understand him thinking that this year he has seen his career stand still. He's asking for signings , so are we. He's asking for a change of tactics , so are we. The situation is really no different to the ones we witnessed with Cesc and RVP among others , they wanted squad improvements to help win things , they went to the club and their requests were turned down . We want squad improvements too .
I believe that a few of our players are like us waiting to see how the Wenger situation pans out and contrary to the standard perception I can't help wondering if privately they are hoping he goes and that their careers might get a direction change to improve their chances of winning things.

Re: Cazorla Interview
It was odd because even before Ozil came Wenger started playing Cazorla out wide at the second half of last season. Rosicky can bring a bit of spark but Wenger prioritises him far too much, Cazorla should have been the first name on the team-sheet IN THE MIDDLE every game but found himself alienated on the left most games. Going back 3 seasons I remember Wenger shunting Nasri out to the right in the Carling Cup final to accommodate Rosicky in a typical tactical boo-boo.Robin_L wrote:which is all the more bizarre as he spent most of his career prior to Arsenal playing out wide. I'm of the opinion that you can't / don't need Cazorla and Ozil in the same team together, would rather have quicker players out wide.
Obviously now there is the issue with fitting both Cazorla and Ozil in the same side, we're simply not strong enough in other areas to be able to work them both into a system that will allow them both to flourish.
Re: Cazorla Interview
Problem of having too many of the same midfielder and not paying attention to defensive deficiencies.
