Could Lehmann be a dressing room snitch? (15/4)

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Could Lehmann be a dressing room snitch? (15/4)

usual thread starter… don’t agree with this. Jens is the kind of individual who would put his name to any slagging off. Suspect the ‘source’ was made up, even if there may be some truth in the story. And we might have conceded four at OT in the Cup, but Jens kept it from being about seven from memory.

The writer admits to being hungover at the time of penning this. Enough said!

I have to agree with the Ed here . . . Please look at the goal celebrations against Milan to see how much Jens feels for the club.

To call his performance away to united in the cup into question is ridiculous. He was the only player to come out with any credit from that game.

This guy has been a super professional and a fantastic servent to the club. I only hope he is remembered as such!

First post after Ed 100% right

Check his smile at the Cesc goal in Milan. He wouldn't pull this shit.

Jens speaks his mind and wouldn't sink that low.

And I think he is right to - Almunia is a mid-table keeper and Jens was an invincible. Fine he made some mistakes start of season but think about the penalty at Liverpool the other night - Jens would have fucked with Gerrard's mind a bit more and been more of a presence. Personally, I will be sad to see him go because I enjoyed him taking no shit.

Oh God no, the posted got it all wrong!

The info about the dressing room problems is from Mark Randall. It was posted at arsenal-mania forum by a Liverpool fans who's best mate is a former (forgot the football club) player who is a friend of Randall. Some journos read the forum and based their articles on those rumours. And the dressing room problems are not related to Lehmann but to players not being behind Gallas, Kolo and Ade having a brust up, Ade hating Nick etc. There is no good team spirit at Arsenal but tell you one thing, Jens always speaks out if he has a problem with something. He is a 100% honest and maybe this causes him to treat on some peoples feet but he simply speaks his mind. What he doesn't do is writing articles about his club or talking to the press anonymously. He's a good guy and honest about his sympathies but also about his dislikes.

Showing he's better than Almunia vs ManU was surley the greatest satisfation. He may have a big mouths but if you give him the chances he proves he was right.

Almunia certainly couldn't take Jens to court for Jens stating the truth that surely everyone knows - that Jens is far and away the better kepper, someone who might have had the balls to shake up our defence rather than being a "nice guy".

And I agree, 4 minutes from the end of a QF and Gerrard has a penalty - You don't want Jens anywhere near you if you're Gerrard.

Jens Lehman has never seemed to hide behind the press, if he has something to say then he will say that in an interview or an article. Why would he change that habit now when he had nothing to lose?

Love how Jens gets blamed for Cl final but wasn't he the guy that got us there?

Strikes me as a load of press bollocks designed to kick Arsenal when we are down.

Who the hell does the author think he is? Miss bloody Marple?

So, let me get this right...with absolutely no evidence to support your theory, you somehow deduce that lehmann is the snitch?

pathetic

The most idiotic thing is that he mentions Lehmann getting send off five times when he played for Dortmund and thus tries to question his professionalism. Everyone who has seen those games knows he usually got send of for nothing. In one game he got fouled and hit unconcious, then fouled again, then there were a couple of insane ref decisions including a given offside-goal against Dortmund and he was finally so angry he ran up to one of his defenders. The ref then booked him for running to the middle of the pitch, even though this is neither a rule nor did Lehmann ran to the middle line.
The only justified send off was when a player ran into him studs first and hit his knee and he kicked back. Of course the guy made a meal out of it but it was a send off, no question. But just to have a nice comparison:

He did not only get send off, he got suspended for several games and had to pay a high fee because our favourite tabloid in Germany launched a campaign that made him look like the last psychopath. He had to apologise in public and generally act as if he had just killed someone.
Then compare him to Oliver Kahn. He insulted the away fans, he kicked players, he hit them, grabbed them, stuck his finger up their noses and other lovely things and how many times has he been send off? ONCE!

I do understand that it is easier for Kahn to get away with it because he is rude, ugly and not particularly bright so you don't expect anything better of him. And at the same time it was much easier to hate Lehmann who looked like a fucking dressman at that time, had been to university and was very eloquent and cool in interviews. He was not one of "us", the "common football fan". This is the only explanation if have for Lehmann having to pay much more than Kahn for more harmless things. That and the Kahn vs Lehmann question being a affair of state in Germany, including propaganda machinery with the papers and the mighty Bayern being on Kahn's side.

This article really is a load of rubbish. You can tell the guy was hung-over and maybe a bit more receptive for conspiracy theories than usual.

Which makes a better headline?

"Jens the nutter"

"Jens the guy who lectured at Oxford University"

When people compare the intelligent articulate players from abroad to the English, they really should mention things like that. How many 19 English Prem players are studying?

I bet things like Lehmann studying economics at university - like Wenger - doing guest lectures at Oxford University, being extremely popular withing the German national team including the youngsters, having a lovely family, being a chairman of the German Youth Football Foundation or raising 1 mil euros for a charity which helps ill children with his WC penalty note (and leaving a heart-warming note for his 1-year old babygirl on the back because the note was donated to the House of German history by the buyer) does not quite fit into the image the British media have drawn of him.
He's a good guy but people only see what they want to see and the papers only see what sells.
